BLACK HISTORY MONTH HIGHLIGHT
Not many kids turn their lemonade stands into successful ventures, but 11-year-old Mikaila Ulmer has raised the bar by securing a  four-state contract with Whole Foods.

The Austin, Texas sixth-grader built her lemonade business,  BeeSweet Lemonade (soon-to-be  Me & The Bees” ), with a 1940s lemonade recipe from her grandmother that uses flaxseed and local honey as sweetener. Ulmer received a $60,000 investment when she appeared on ABC’s Shark Tank with her business.

BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT

Christina will be appearing at the next Women's Business Acceleration workshop.

Thursday, March 1, 2018 HCC West Loop campus. 5601 West Loop , Auditorium, Houston, TX 77081.

If you are interested in hearing her speak on Building a Legacy.
The Morales
Memorial Foundation

Although taking on the family business may be expected, Christina took the reins of the Felix H. Morales Funeral Home at a very young age and with minimal preparation or experience. Her parents, Joe and Lorraine Morales, died young leaving Christina and her siblings with little opportunity to obtain a higher education before entering the workforce. Felix and Angela V. Morales, Christina’s grandparents and founders of the Morales Funeral Home, successfully established themselves as the first to serve Houston’s Latino community by leading the business in Houston’s East End. Christina took on the challenge of carrying on the legacy with great pride.

Christina finds it important giving back through the Morales Foundation since its founding in 1993. Its biggest event, the annual Back to School Supplies Giveaway has given away more than 18,000 packs to Pre-K through High School students over 20 years. It is the only giveaway in Houston providing free and complete packs of schools supplies as required by HISD and an opportunity give children the much-needed tools to begin the school year.

"Good or bad our life story defines who we become. Use your story to become amazing."

-Christina Morales
