Greetings!
September was a month of remembrance, celebration, and gratitude at Halifax Community College. We reflected on the tragic events of September 11, reconnected with former students and welcomed them back to the college as well as prospective students and families at FutureFest, and promoted health and wellness through our campus Wellness Fair and “Start Fall Strong” initiative. We also honored the dedicated service of Mr. Joseph Johnston and Mr. Steve Medlin, who transitioned off of the Board of Trustees and Foundation Board of Directors after years of guiding the College with wisdom and commitment. Our 16th Annual Foundation Golf Tournament brought the community together in support of student scholarships and support, and I am deeply grateful to all who participated and sponsored this successful event. These moments embody the spirit of HCC—one of resilience, opportunity, and shared success.

A highlight of September was the 16th Annual Halifax Community College Foundation Golf Tournament, held at Chockoyotte Country Club. It was a day filled with camaraderie, competition, and community spirit, all in support of scholarships and resources that directly impact our students. Congratulations to our tournament winners: First Place went to Team Smurfit Westrock—Danny Harris, John Felts, Kevin Peebles, and Cory Newcomb; Second Place was awarded to Sondra Goffington-Dickens, Team A—Marcus Bellamy, Donald Jeffries, Steve Jeffries, and Louis Holland; and Third Place went to Team New Dixie Oil—Spenser Hargrove, Jim Herring, Jordan Hargrove, and Taylor Archer. Special recognition also goes to Jason Trinder, winner of the 50/50 raffle; Kevin Peebles for Closest to the Pin; and Joey Elias for Longest Drive.
None of this would have been possible without the generosity of our sponsors, and I extend my deepest thanks to all who contributed—with particular gratitude to our Title Sponsor, Cummins. Your support allows us to continue driving student success and fulfilling the mission of Halifax Community College.

For years, these distinguished leaders have devoted their time, wisdom, and commitment to advancing the college's mission. The Next NC Scholarship offers an opportunity for many adults to return to school at no cost, helping them gain the skills they need to secure in-demand, high-paying jobs right in their community. Through the Better Skills. Better Jobs. initiative, we engage directly with adults who have earned some college credits but haven’t yet received a degree or certification. This initiative features community events, social media promotions, targeted digital marketing, and personalized resources to make it easier for adult learners to reconnect and re-enroll. Thanks to our collaborative efforts with the John M. Belk Endowment, myFutureNC, and several other state and local partners, we’re excited to launch this special outreach campaign to welcome even more adult learners back to college!
