Christmas Craft Fair

A special thank you to all who attended and all the amazing volunteers

who helped to make this Christmas fair what it is.

Rev Paige’s Corner:

Christmas Sing-a-longs

This is a time of year when even those who don’t sing all that often get caught up with Christmas caroling and the chance to join crowds singing boisterously such songs as “Rudolph” and “Jingle Bells” and “Deck the Halls.”  It seems to be part of the joy of the season.

This Sunday, we get a Christmas song that comes up every year: The Magnificat. Mary’s song which is rooted in the song from her biblical heritage song by Hannah – the mother of Samuel – is different from the Christmas songs we often hear at this time of year. There is no Santa or reindeer or sleigh rides. Instead, Mary sings of a world turned upside down. It is a song that celebrates what God is doing in her and through her life. She sings of mercy. She sings of an equalization that brings down the powerful and lifts up the lowly. She sings of the hungry being filled with good things. She sings of how God is keeping promises.

Mary’s Christmas song sees her pregnancy as part of a God’s big story and God’s desire for the world to be different – to be a place of care, compassion, equality, and justice.

And I find myself wondering how we can sing along with Mary – not just in our words but in all the ways we say “yes” to God!

Advent Blessings!

The UCC Christmas Fund:

As we approach the end of Advent and our Christmas worship services, one special giving opportunity is the UCC Christmas Fund. For over one hundred years, The Christmas Fund has provided direct financial assistance to the healers in all our lives: retired and active UCC ministers, church workers, and their families. You are part of the community of The Christmas Fund, whether you donate at Christmastime, benefit directly from our grant or leadership programs, or simply believe in our mission to help secure the financial foundation of those engaged in the life of the church.

Please consider donating today to ensure more healers receive the loving support of the Church in their moment of deepest need. The Christmas Fund was here for them. And regardless of who you are or what brought you to the United Church of Christ, The Christmas Fund is here for you.

Your gift is more than just a testament to your belief in the values of the United Church of Christ, it is a critical lifeline for those who depend on our grant programs for care and support. Thank you again for your generosity and I offer a closing prayer for your continued safety and peace.

Peace & Justice

Here is a good news story from NHPR about mushrooms mitigating PFAS pollution. Angela Graves grew up near the Saint-Gobain and learned about the forever chemicals. As a student at Plymouth State she became so frustrated with a lack of progress on the pollution that she developed an experiment using fungi to “eat” the chemicals known as myco-remediation.

Read the article for the details of the experiment and the progress of the work and why Angela is hopeful of finding a solution to the PFAS pollution.
