Pens, Pencils, and Markers are NOT Recyclable?
Pens, pencils and markers are not recyclable in curbside recycling. While these contain plastic and metal that seem recyclable, the items are a mix of many different materials that are difficult to separate. Also, due to their small size, the items tend to get lost at the processor.
Visit Howard County's What Should I Do With...? website for details about mail-in recycling programs for crayons and markers.

Yard Waste Collection Changes
Just a reminder that this week and continuing through the fall of 2015, Howard County's Department of Public Works will phase out the collection of yard trim (leaves, grass and brush) from plastic bags.

Look up your transition day and keep an eye on your mailbox for a letter announcing the change in your neighborhood.

As of January 1, 2016 every household receiving County provided yard trim collection will have made the transition to prohibit plastic bags.
