Harper's Choice Happenings

Fall Appraisal Roadshow
Do you have trash or treasure in your home? Join us for an
Appraisal Roadshow! We will have a gemologist and a generalist appraiser from
Paradigm Experts on hand on Monday, October 19 at 7:30 p.m. to offer appraisals of up to two items per person. Items to consider bringing include
jewelry, silver, coins, time pieces, furniture, glass, porcelain, paintings, bronze, toys, documents, and any other items (except stamps). For each item, the entire audience will learn what it is, what it's worth, and what they can do with it. You do not need to bring an item to come and enjoy the show.
Register online
to have your items appraised or to attend the show. You may also purchase tickets at Kahler Hall.
Limited number of tickets are available
- General Admission Tickets are $19 for appraisal of up to two items plus light refreshments.
- Spectator Tickets are $7 to watch the "show" and enjoy light refreshments.
Doors open at 7:00 p.m. Please arrive in plenty of time to check in and be seated by 7:30 p.m. The show will begin promptly and items can not be added to the show once it has begun. ALL items will be appraised either during the allo
tted show time or after the session. Tickets are limited and must be purchased in advance through this link or in person at Kahler Hall to have your item(s) appraised.

FREE Conversational English Classes
The Harper's Choice Community Association, in partnership with FIRN, will offer FREE conversational English classes at Kahler Hall (5440 Old Tucker Row, Columbia) on Mondays from 6:30-8:30pm beginning on October 19. Classes are family friendly and appropriate for children in 2nd grade through adults. Children and adults will work in separate groups with FIRN volunteers. Winter Growth Offers Adult Medical Daycare and Assisted Living Services?
Winter Growth is a non-profit organization founded in 1979 in Brookeville, MD. Their mission is to provide community-based services for older and disabled adults that support them in achieving their highest potential for independence, dignity, and life satisfaction. Winter Growth is licensed by the State of Maryland to provide Adult Medical Day Care and Assisted Living. They are located at 5460 Ruth Keaton Way in Columbia (next to the Bain Senior Center).
You are invited to attend an Open House on Saturday, October 17 from 12-4pm where you can meet the on-site rehabilitation team, tour the new wing, and enjoy light refreshments.

Community Tree Planting
Members of every age from all of the Oakland Mills Interfaith (OMI) congregations and surrounding community are encouraged to participate in a tree planting ceremony on Sunday, October 11 from 12-3:45pm. The event begins with an Interfaith
Spiritual and Environmental workshop to shed light on the Trees for Sacred Places project. The Workshop includes the scriptural and theological basis for the care of God's Creation as well as the ecological benefits of planting trees. You are invited to come for all or part of the day.

Architectural Committee Meetings
Changes made to the exterior of homes in Harper's Choice require approval of the Village Architectural Committee (AC). The AC meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at 7:30pm to review applications. The deadline to submit applications for approval is two weeks prior to the next meeting date. Upcoming meetings are scheduled for: 10/13, 10/27, 11/10.
