Books to Big Screen Readers' Club:
The Choice
Join us at Kahler Hall (5440 Old Tucker Row) on Wed, Jan. 20 from 6:30-8pm as we discuss The Choice by Nicholas Sparks. Set for its movie debut on Feb. 5, this book is about Travis Parker, a man who has everything he could want: a good job, loyal friends, and a waterfront home in a small North Carolina town. In full pursuit of the good life - boating, swimming, and regular barbecues with his good-natured buddies - he holds the vague conviction that a serious relationship with a woman would only cramp his style. That is, until Gabby Holland moves in next door. Despite his attempts to be neighborly, the appealing redhead seems to have a chip on her shoulder about him...and the presence of her longtime boyfriend doesn't help. Despite himself, Travis can't stop trying to ingratiate himself with his new neighbor, and his persistent efforts lead them both to the doorstep of a journey that neither could have foreseen. Spanning the eventful years of young love, marriage and family, The Choice ultimately confronts us with the most heartwrenching question of all: How far would you go to keep the hope of love alive?
Participation is FREE. Club members are responsible for purchasing or borrowing the book to enjoy prior to our discussion. Please call 410-730-0770 or email us to register.

Local Athletes Will Jump in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade?
When the 89th Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade steps off on November 26 in New York City, over 100 jump rope athletes from across the country will participate in the pageantry of the Parade. Featured in the Parade are local jumpers Maria Ciarrocchi, Christina Kratzmeier, Michael Laper, Megan McGuire, Devin Meek, Jenna Meek, Drew Meininger, Beth Short, Cameron Simmons, Sophie Skalny, Lily Trossman, Meg Weidman, Aaron Weingrad and Ali Young from the Kangaroo Kids Precision Jump Rope Team.
Organized by the Heartbeats Jump Rope Team in Cleveland, Ohio, the group will appear under the acronym J.U.M.P. (Jumpers United for Macy's Parade). Jump Rope is a competition sport that has been featured on television in "America's Got Talent," ESPN Sports, Fox Sports, and many professional sports venues. These athletes will showcase their talent alongside giant character balloons, celebrities, floats, marching bands, performance groups, and clowns. This will be the third time jump rope has appeared in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, as 108 jumpers, ages 12-24, from teams across the country, will be part of this year's event.
