Effective Mosquito Control Tips
Mosquitoes require standing water to breed. YOU can
help by:
-
Eliminating standing water EVERYWHERE - in rain gutters, old tires, buckets, plastic covers, toys, or containers where water will collect.
- Changing the water in bird baths, fountains, wading pools, and potted plant trays at least once a week to destroy potential breeding habitats.
- Draining and filling temporary pools of water with dirt.
- Raking ivy beds to dislodge moist piles of deteriorating leaves and hidden water pools.
- Keeping swimming pool, pond or fountain water treated and circulating.
- Clearing roof gutters of debris that block the flow of water into the downspouts.
- Drilling holes in the bottom of recycling bins or containers stored outside.
- Repairing leaky outdoor faucets promptly.
DO NOT USE flexible downspout extensions; the ridges hold water and are a perfect breeding ground for many hundreds of mosquitoes.
