Fall 2023

Howard Community College (HCC) is proud to be the largest community college sponsor of registered apprenticeships in Maryland, as reported by the Maryland Department of Labor in 2023. Our apprenticeship programs are designed to seamlessly integrate formal education with hands-on, paid work experience, enabling students to "earn while they learn."

With a robust foundation in apprenticeship programs spanning electrical, plumbing, HVACR, and various other trades, HCC has been a leading force in skill-building and workforce development. Now, we are thrilled to share some exciting news that is set to transform the educational landscape of our community. We are embarking on a Capital Campaign to create a hub of innovation, skill-building, and economic growth – the Workforce Development & Trades Center.

This innovative center is poised to address the critical shortage of skilled workers in trades and technical fields. It will serve as a gateway for students from all backgrounds to gain valuable skills, paving the way toward financial stability and professional success. Moreover, the Workforce Development & Trades Center is poised to stimulate economic growth and fortify stability within our county. We believe that this initiative will not only shape the future of education but also play a pivotal role in strengthening our local workforce and driving economic prosperity. Together, we are embarking on a transformative journey that will have a lasting impact on our community.
