California Department of Housing and Community Development Awards $50.2 Million to Support Infill Infrastructure Development

The California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) is pleased to announce the award of Infill Infrastructure Grant Program (IIG) funds to developers and jurisdictions around the state. While not funding the development of the project itself, the grants provide infrastructure funding which is necessary for its development. The affordable housing produced will provide almost 2,000 housing units.

Funded by Proposition 1C, the Housing and Emergency Shelter Act of 2006, the primary goal is to promote infill housing development. By providing financial assistance, IIG supports infrastructure improvements to facilitate new housing development. IIG serves to aid in new construction and rehabilitation of infrastructure that supports higher-density affordable and mixed income housing in locations designated as infill. Infill projects must have been previously developed, or largely surrounded by development.

This funding is the last of the IIG funds from Prop. 1C and the program will receive an infusion of new funds if California voters approve the Veterans and Affordable Housing Bond Act in November 2018.
