Greetings HCHS Alums and Families,

As we enter the fall that also mean FAFSA season begins!

Big Reminders:

  • FAFSA Opens on October 1!
  • If you plan to take classes any time from the fall of 2023 through the summer of 2024, you should complete the 23-24 FAFSA if you are eligible. It opens October 1 and most schools give priority when it is submitted by March 1.
  • If you have not completed the FAFSA and want to take classes this fall or the Spring/Summer of 2023 you will need to do both the 2022-2023 FAFSA (do this immediately) and the 2023-2024 FAFSA as soon after October 1 as possible.
  • To complete the 2023-2024 FAFSA you will need you parents 2021 taxes. If those have not been filed you should encourage them to do so ASAP. If you think you can file as an independent student, don't assume! Check here to see if you qualify
  • Graduate School Entrance Exams
  • If you are a junior or senior and considering applying for a Master's, Ph.D., Law, Medical, or another professional degree now is the time to look at what (if any) exams might be required (GRE, GMAT, MCAT, LSAT, etc.). If you are hoping to enroll next fall you are likely already on a tight deadline to take exams and apply.
  • Drop a Class and Take a W
  • The last chance to withdraw from a class without it impacting your GPA (it will be a "W" on your transcript) is typically in early October so if you are really struggling in any classes and want to drop, do it now or commit to tutoring!! Reach out to you academic advising office.
  • Second 8-Week Courses at VGCC
  • Register Prior to the October 13 Start Date!!

Community College Registration


Do you still want to register for fall 2022 classes at an NC Community College? Most community colleges now offer classes in 8-week sessions. VGCC, for instance, will begin another set of classes on October 13. Interested in enrolling? Text me to request a meeting at 252.432.5914 before next Friday, October 7.
Alumni Campus Visits

No matter where your journey takes you, we want to stay in touch regularly to support your future planning. Next week I will visit UNC and VGCC.

Here is my tentative schedule:

Tuesday, October 4, 2022

Location: UNC Chapel Hill
Times: 10 AM - 4:30 PM

Thursday October 6, 2022

Location: VGCC Main Campus
Times: 1:00 PM - 4:30 PM

HC Fall Break:
HC Staff will be on Fall Break from October 10 - 19. I will not be available to meet during that time but will check my phone periodically for emergency requests.

Other Tentative October Visits: I still need to set dates but the week of October 24 I will visit UNCG, NC A&T, Guilford, & Elon. The week of October 31 I will visit Wake Forest & WSSU.
