Physicians needed for incapacity evaluations
DEADLINE EXTENDED TO 1/11/19
The HCMA has been asked to assist the 13th Judicial Circuit in its efforts to recruit new physician members of the Court's Guardianship Examining Committee which involves individual evaluations of alleged incapacitated persons. When someone seeks to have the Court determine a person's level of capacity, because of a good faith belief that the individual is incapacitated and in need of a legal guardian, the Court appoints three members of the Guardianship Examining Committee to independently evaluate the person and file a written report with the Court. One of the three must be a physician.
Most cases involve only one meeting with the person, to conduct the evaluation, and then the writing and filing of the report. The Court will provide a basic format for the report, but the individual physician may add to it or attach a narrative or letter.

Physicians are paid a flat fee of $300.00 for their service, per case, and paid by the State if the Ward is indigent.  The amount of times a physician would be contacted to take a case would vary based upon the number of new cases and the number of physicians on the Committee.

To receive background information and an application, please click here.

For further details, please contact Sean Cadigan, General Magistrate/13th Judicial Circuit, [email protected] or phone: (813) 276-8517.

"There really is a need for physicians to do this important work for these vulnerable members of our community, " Magistrate Sean Cadigan.

From the Board of Medicine
Check your medical license expiration date!
Many Florida medical licenses expire January 31, 2019.  Make sure your license has been renewed!

Take note:
  • The renewal fee is $379.
  • Renew online by visiting http://flhealthsource.gov/mqa-services
  • If a delinquent licensee is not renewed as active or inactive before the expiration of the current licensure cycle, his or her license will become null and void without further action by the Board of Medicine or DOH.
If you have any questions, please contact the MQA Call Center at (850) 488-0595.

Renewing after the deadline is costly and time consuming, and third party payors can refuse to reimburse physicians for services rendered under an inactive license.
