COVID-19 News
HCMA MEMBERS & STAFF ONLY
The HCMA has partnered with the Florida Physicians Alliance (FPA) in an effort to provide COVID-19 vaccines for physician members and their staff (who have exposure risk) as well as HCMA retired members. Locations of vaccine sites are currently being secured.

Because of the contract in place with the Health Department, spouses and family members are not eligible for vaccines within this program, unless in direct patient care.

In order to determine the number of vaccines that will be needed - all practices and retired members over 65 interested in receiving the vaccine MUST complete this form: VACCINE SIGN-UP FORM and SEND TO: admin@floridaphysiciansalliance.com.

PLEASE NOTE: You will be notified when and where the vaccines will be available, which is contingent on the Health Department’s ability to receive and distribute the vaccines. At this time no further information is available. FPA and/or HCMA will keep members informed as progress occurs.
FL Shots Program
We also suggest you register for the FL Shots Program, this way you are assured you can vaccinate patients, your staff, or both.

If you, your practice, or healthcare system is not currently registered at FLShotsproviders are strongly encouraged to do so as soon as possible, the longer you wait to register, the more overloaded the website will be:

For questions or additional information, please contact the COVID-19 Vaccine Enrollment Desk at 833-701-1397, or email CovidVaccineProgram@flhealth.gov.
Webinars from the AMA to help you navigate the pandemic
As the pandemic continues to put significant strain on health systems and practices, health care leaders, frontline physicians, and care team members are looking for best practices, emerging resources, and evidence-based information to support their efforts.

The American Medical Association has designed a webinar series to deliver actionable, solution-based resources, helpful guidance for alleviating stress on health care systems, and insights and expert perspectives on actions and interventions that drive proactive change.

AMA's next webinar, scheduled for January 14th, is titled “Telehealth policy & coverage: What you need to know for 2021” and will provide the latest developments and updates on policy and coverage at the federal and state level. Click here to register for this webinar and see other topics that will be covered in the coming months.

Will the U.S. get its first supervised drug consumption site?
Today, about 120 legally sanctioned supervised consumption sites operate in 11 countries globally, including Canada, Germany and Switzerland. Now there’s a proposal for the first supervised consumption site to open in the United States, but the federal government filed a lawsuit to block it from opening in Philadelphia. They argue it violates a section of the Controlled Substances Act that was aimed at making it easier for police to arrest individuals who opened and used buildings to produce, sell, or use crack cocaine. Medical experts disagree. The Breakthrough Process worksheet gives you a place to put reflections of the past year. Research shows just writing these things down once, seals the learning and makes it more likely you are to hit your goals ... even if you never look at the worksheet again. And it is easy to stash with your journal or diary to help you recall this moment in time a year from now. Compliments of The Happy MD
