Join Us in Honoring Humboldt County Students This “Awards Season”
|
This is the time of the school year when students across Humboldt County are recognized for their achievements and success in academics, vocational skill development, extracurricular, and community service. Typically each week, starting around the end of April, there is at least one event honoring and recognizing students. I have come to call this time of year, “Awards Season.”
This is a special time with traditional and newly developed events that are focused on taking a moment to reflect on the dedication, resilience, hard work, and commitment of students throughout Humboldt County. Students of various backgrounds, interests, and skills are honored and participate in programs like the
Innovate! Business Challenge or Eureka Chamber's
Youth Ambassador competition.
Our current reality and need to social distance, does not lessen the importance of honoring our students and schools for their diligence and hard work. In fact, it is more important now than ever to finds creative ways to celebrate our collective and individual successes. By using technology, distance learning tools and of course platforms like ZOOM, Humboldt County Office of Education and local schools have continued to recognize our students.
On example is, on April 9 we honored our top senior students as
Academic Achievers and selected the top two Stellar Students by recording and hosting a reveal via our website that drew over 300 people who virtually “attended” the event.
There are many other events coming up in the next few weeks, please do find time to attend our celebrations of students, teachers, and schools. From the
Excellence in Teaching ceremony on May 13 to the
Seal of Biliteracy on May 28, we are still in full “Awards Season” mode and enjoying every opportunity to honor students and educators in Humboldt County.
Congratulations to all Humboldt County Students!
-Dr. Chris Hartley
