BUSINESS BEAT

HDA, NSGA Can Help Navigate
Online Sales Tax Collection

HDA and NSGA retailer and team dealer members have asked how the Supreme Court's South Dakota v. Wayfair decision would affect their business and how they collect sales tax to out-of-state customers. There is no single answer. This ruling does not affect in-store transactions. The big question concerns members who sell on their websites to out-of-state customers and don't yet collect sales tax. Not every state has a remote sales tax collection law on the books.

A Frequently Asked Questions document is available to HDA and NSGA members on the NSGA website. It includes links to forms needed to register in states that collect state sales tax.

NHL Will Unveil Color-Changing Puck

PPG and the NHL announced that official game pucks featuring thermochromic coatings supplied by PPG will be in play at the 2019 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic® between the Boston Bruins and Chicago Blackhawks at Notre Dame Stadium on New Year's Day.

The advanced coatings change from purple to clear when a puck's temperature is above freezing, providing a visual indication to officials that the puck should be replaced. The coated pucks will be tested at NHL tentpole events during the 2018-19 season and will be further evaluated for broader use in the future.
