Sher-Wood Sells Brand, Part of Hockey Inventory to Canadian Tire

The Sher-Wood Athletics Group Inc. (SAG) has finalized an agreement to sell its Sher-Wood brand and parts of its hockey inventory to INA International Inc. (INA), a division of Canadian Tire Corporation. INA will be responsible for sales, distribution, marketing and product development of Sher-Wood hockey equipment to customers in Canada, the United States and internationally.

The Canadian Tire Corporation includes Canadian Tire, Sport Chek, Sports Experts, Pro Hockey Life and FGL Sports.

29th Annual Let's Play Hockey Expo
March 9-10 in Minnesota

The 29th annual Let's Play Hockey Expo, billed as the largest consumer hockey show in the world, will be March 9-10 at the Saint Paul RiverCentre in St. Paul, Minnesota. Each year an estimated 40,000 attend the show held adjacent to the Minnesota State High School League state hockey tournament in the Xcel Energy Center (home of the Minnesota Wild).

 GAME OF A LIFETIME

Still Going Strong On the Ice at 96

Mark Sertich is proof hockey is a game for all ages. Sertich, who hits the ice three times a week in Duluth, Minnesota, is believed to be the world's oldest active player at 96. He started skating in 1931 but said he didn't truly become serious about hockey until he turned 80.

U.S. Women's Olympic Goalie Masks
Cause Some Confusion 


There was some confusion about the goalie masks with a Statue of Liberty image on the masks used by two U.S. women's goaltenders in the Olympic Games in Korea. The U.S. was informed after its first game the masks could violate the International Olympic Committee's ban on political symbols. However, the IOC ruled the masks were OK to be used before a a 5-0 victory over the Olympic Athletes of Russia.

Does North Korean Olympic Hockey Equipment Violate U.N. Sanctions? 

North Korean's women's hockey team was wearing gear from U.S. and North American brands in the Olympic Games, and the sale of sporting goods to North Korea has been prohibited since March 2016, when the United Nations said a ban on luxury goods covered recreational products. However, there are exceptions to the ban that may have allowed the North Korean players to wear the equipment.

The collaboration for the purchase of hockey equipment by U.S. hockey dealers between the HDA and National Sporting Goods Association (NSGA) and SDC (Sports Distributors of Canada) continues to grow as it enters its third year.

Did you know?

The Edmonton Oilers are the only team from the World Hockey Association that has retained its original name and city since the merger with the NHL in 1979.

The New England Whalers, Quebec Nordiques and Winnipeg Jets also came to the NHL from the WHA. The Whalers changed their name to Hartford and moved in 1997 to become the Carolina Hurricane. The Nordiques became the Colorado Avalanche and the Jets became the Arizona Coyotes.
