Rebranded LIGHT Helmets
Plans Expansion to Hockey

SG Helmets officially rebranded as LIGHT Helmets in mid-January 2019. While the focus since 2011 has been on creating a safer football helmet, the company plans to eventually expand to other sports such as hockey, lacrosse and baseball.

"Rethink the Rink" Initiative
Focuses on Making Equipment Safer

The Pittsburgh Penguins, Covestro and the Carnegie Mellon University College of Engineering kicked off the second year of its "Rethink the Rink" initiative with an event to look at ways of making player equipment safer. The inaugural 2018 event focused on ways to improve safety aspects of ice rinks.

Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Casey DeSmith isn't worried that wearing bright yellow pads might give opposing players a visual edge. DeSmith was 15-11-5 with a 2.75 goals against average this season.

Announces Four Finalists

Four communities have been chosen as finalists for the title of Kraft Hockeyville USA 2019. The winner of voting March 30-31 will receive $150,000 in rink upgrades, new equipment and the opportunity to host an NHL Pre-Season game.

With Hockey and Synchronized Skating

A Canadian mom said most of her son's minor hockey costs are covered through corporate sponsorship while her daughter must do significant fundraising to cover figure skating costs.

The collaboration for the purchase of hockey equipment by U.S. hockey dealers between HDA, the National Sporting Goods Association (NSGA) and Sports Distributors of Canada (SDC) continues to grow.
