HE IS RISEN! LET US REJOICE!
Shaping Our Future - Embracing God's Vision Together
Dear Franklinton Baptist Church Family,
As we continue our journey of "Shaping Our Future," I am filled with excitement and gratitude for how God is at work in our church. This process is more than just planning - it's a shared opportunity to reflect on who we are, seek God's will, and unite our hearts in faith. During our recent discussions, we explored four vivid paradigms to help us reflect on the essence of our church's mission:
1. Hospital Labor and Delivery Unit - A place where new life begins, representing our call to nurture spiritual birth and renewal.
2. Construction Site - A reminder that building God's kingdom requires a strong foundation and teamwork.
3. Family Reunion - A celebration of connection, belonging, and shared heritage.
4. EMS/Rescue Squad - A call to respond swiftly and compassionately to those in crisis.
Last Wednesday night, March 19, our hearts resonated most with the metaphor of a "Family Reunion." Just as a family reunion gathers diverse individuals united by shared heritage, Franklinton Baptist Church is a gathering of people from different backgrounds, ages, and interests, all united in our faith in JESUS CHRIST.
As a family reunion, we share stories, memories, and traditions that remind us of who we are and strengthen the bonds that hold us together. Similarly, our church is rich in history, traditions, and stories of faith that we can share not only with one another but with our community and the world. This image beautifully captures our vision of a church where all feel welcome, connected, and deeply loved - a true family in Christ.
As we shape our future together, we find ourselves in a sacred season in the life of our church. Lent calls us to a time of reflection, prayer, and preparation for the joy of Resurrection Sunday. As we journey through Passion Week, let us remember the incredible sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ and the gift of salvation He offers to all who believe. On Easter Sunday, we will gather with joy to celebrate the triumph of Jesus Christ over death and sin. This year, we are thrilled to join together for the 7:00 AM Sunrise Service at the Methodist Church. What a powerful opportunity this season provides for us to live out our mission: to share the gospel with our neighbors and to invite them to experience the new life and hope found in Christ.
As we reflect on our mission and this meaningful season, let us take to heart the words of Scripture:
-
"By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." John 13:35
-
"Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing." 1 Thessalonians 5:11
I am excited to see how God will continue to shape our future. Let's press on together, united in our faith and mission to share the good news of Jesus Christ with the world. As we reflect on the true meaning of Easter, may we be inspired to demonstrate the love of Christ in this community and boldly share the hope we have in Him. Through prayer, reflection, and service, may we embrace God's vision for Franklinton Baptist Church and glorify His name in all that we do.
A Pastoral Prayer for FBC
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the gift of Franklinton Baptist Church and the ways You are shaping us to be Your hands and feet in this world. As we reflect on our mission and future, we ask for wisdom to guide our steps and your Spirit to unify our hearts. Help us to live as a family of faith, welcoming all with love, sharing the gospel boldly, and serving our community with compassion and grace. During this sacred season of Lent, as we prepare for the joy of Resurrection Sunday, may we be reminded of the incredible sacrifice of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Stir our hearts to reflect His love, to shine His light and to extend His hope to those around us. Bless our efforts to bring others into the joy of knowing You, and let our lives be a testimony of Your grace and glory. In the name of Jesus Christ, our risen Lord and Savior. AMEN
With faith, hope, and joy,
Dr. Richard Childress
