"COVID-19 - A View from the Margins"
Co-Edited by Yogesh Jain and Sarah Nabia
|

As a HEAL Fellow in 2017-2019, Dr. Anup Agarwal worked with Dr. Yogesh Jain, a founding member of Jan Swasthya Sahyog, a hospital in rural Chhattisgarh, India.
Dr. Jain has dedicated his life to highlighting the causes and burdens of the poorest in the world. He, alongside and co-editor Sarah Nabia published a first-of-its-kind book "COVID-19 - a view from the margins," documenting India's response to the COVID pandemic.
The anthology of essays is written entirely by Indian civil servants, doctors in rural and urban India, and experts in public health, law, politics, and economics. Anup contributed a chapter on epidemiology, testing, trials and vaccine research in India, a topic that he has spoken out about widely.
When asked why health practitioners need a book like this today, Anup shared, "The problems that arise in public health with marginalization have a recurring theme. This book, written by people who have experience of working on the margins, may help understand marginalization with a different perspective, irrespective of where you may work [...] Reading this book will help develop a unique understanding of the Indian public health scenario in its totality and how Indians view it."
