Tampa Bay HEAT Summer Camps 2023

The Tampa Bay HEAT has offered fun and educational summer camps since 2010! Spaces fill as payment is received, so register early for the best selection! The majority of these camps take place at the Homeschool Resource Center located at 307 S. Parsons Ave. in Brandon, Florida.

Dungeons and Dragons Camp


Geared towards ages 8-10, we will learn the basics of how to make character sheets, but they will have the option to choose from characters already created for them. We will spend time playing these PG, shortened versions of Dungeons and Dragons from the D and D Adventure Club. Check out their website to get more information!

All students will receive their very own set of dice, as well as a character sheet, and are asked to bring lunch and water.

Recommended Ages 11 and up

Fight monsters, cast spells, explore caverns and so much more! In this summer camp, students will create characters and learn how to play the fantastical role-playing game Dungeons and Dragons. Each day our group of adventurers will advance on our quest to confront the evil at the heart of Mork City! 

All students will receive their very own set of dice, as well as a character sheet, and are only required to bring water. 

If you love fantasy, adventure, and using your imagination, this is the perfect camp for you!

Fun with Bots Coding and Robotics


Join FunWithBots.com in our 18th year turning Summer Fun and Mayhem into STEM! Our weeklong Robotics Summer Day Camp offers 4-16-year-olds an opportunity to learn mechanical and structural engineering, logic, coding, math, and physics in an engaging week of hands-on LEGO Robotics challenges. A Great Ball Chase? A Mission to Mars? LEGO Sports? BattleBots? FIRST LEGO League? Students will choose their adventure theme, then build and code their robotic creations with motors, gears, pulleys, sensors, and more. FunWithBots instructors are trained to meet each student where they are and to individualize instruction for maximum FUN and learning.

Cheerleading Camp


Join us for summer cheer and dance camp! We will spend the week learning a choreographed dance, chants and cheers, basic cheer-nastics, basic stunting, playing games and making pom poms & spirit sticks! Please send your camper with plenty of water. A small snack will be provided.

Come learn or improve your quilting skills this summer! In this week-long quilt camp students will learn the basics of quilting both by hand and by machine, each child will make their very own quilted project to bring home at the end of the week. Age 8 and up

Baton Twirling Camp


Ages 6-10

*Baton twirling combines dance and gymnastics moves while manipulating a baton.

*Baton twirling is an excellent way to develop hand-eye coordination.

*Baton twirling develops self-discipline, gracefulness, rhythm, timing, and total body control.

*Baton twirling is great exercise and helps increase spatial awareness.

*Twirlers can participate in both recreational groups as well as competitive groups.

*Many twirlers earn scholarships to twirl at the collegiate level.

Greenie Gardening Camp


Garden Campers will spend their week immersed in the delights of gardening. They will connect with the plants, learn there's more than just stuff to eat from the garden, explore habitats and balanced ecosystems, create arts and garden crafts, make new friends, and spend their days getting their hands dirty. 

 

We'll be working on projects like rain barrels, drip irrigation, Florida garden planning, starting microgreens, and making compost tea! Age 6 and up

Each day we will be playing improv games, learning popular show-tunes and choreography, gaining new skills which will improve stage presence and future performances. On the final day everyone will present what was learned in a short performance.

Archery Boot Camps

Beginner-Intermediate


For those kids who would love to learn to shoot a compound bow, come attend our beginner's archery boot camp where you will be introduced to basic shooting skills. This camp will get them ready to compete in the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP).

Our team motto is "Shoot Straight!" which is built on the character traits of honesty and integrity. So come join us to fine tune your archery skills for the upcoming 2023-2024 NASP competitive season (our current team just won STATE and will be traveling to Nationals in KY) Each camp day will focus on a different basic archery skill to master. It will be a team building fun time for the inexperienced archer. If you have completed the beginner camp, join the intermediate camp to fine tune your skills.

Drum Percussion Camp


Ages 7-13

Kids will have an opportunity to learn how to play the drums step-by-step, they will learn to incorporate it with an accompanying instrument, and they will learn rhythm! Kids will have some structured game time to help them learn and pick up the information. They also get a chance to talk about what they would name a band if they had one, and discuss different genres of music, etc

Get ready to create! We will do several projects together, with many different mediums (including clay and paper mâché). The last day we will have mini art show for the parents at the end of class. There will be a 30 min lunch break, so please pack a lunch. We will also have some fun games and activities. Age 7-13

Gymnastics Camps


Intermediate Back Handspring Camp MWF

This camp is designed for kids 6-12 who are able to meet the criteria for the intermediate class. During these 3 days, we will break down the skill into 3 important steps and we will also work on drills to master each step. Tumblers will be able to understand each step better, therefore, making it easier to perform. All our flexibility, strength exercises, and power drills will be focused on this one skill. Gymnasts must be signed up in the intermediate or be able to do a good handstand and bridge kick over to be able to attend this class.


Intro to Gymnastics Camp Tuesday/Thursday

This camp is geared towards kids 6-9 with little to no gymnastics background. We will work on 3 main skills on bars; pull over, cast, and back hip circle, we will learn a beam routine, we will learn to the vault by working on the approach and hurdle and we will focus on our 3 basic floor skills, cartwheel, handstand, and rolls. Kids in the beginner's class who were not promoted to intermediate or kids with little to no gymnastics experience will be able to enjoy this class.

Minecraft Camp


Build your own multiverse, characters, and challenges for heroes to overcome at this entertaining Minecraft camp. We will learn about how superhero worlds are created, character development, and plot twists. There will also be fun Marvel trivia and crafts. Participants will need to have a device that has a working version of Minecraft. The demo version will not work for this camp.  Age 8 and up!

Jewelry Making Camp


Ages 7-13 

Max of 12 students

Create, wear, and most importantly have fun! This camp is for students who need minimal assistance when crafting. Techniques will be taught, and students are free to customize to their own unique style. Students will learn 4 different jewelry-making techniques and if they finish early will be able to work on other small projects. We will primarily focus on leather stamping, making our own tassel Jewelry, seed bead techniques, and good old friendship bracelets.

Hogwarts Summer Camp


Ages 8-13

If you are a Harry Potter fan, this is the perfect summer camp for you! Walk the streets of Diagon Alley, be sorted by the legendary sorting hat, brew potions, and so much more! Each day, we will immerse ourselves in the imaginary world of Harry Potter with a variety of hands-on crafts and activities. Please bring lunch and water, and get ready for an exciting adventure at Hogwarts!

Pirate Camp


Ages 6-12

Arrrrgh who wants to board the ship to explore the open seas of fun and learning? Students should dress up like pirates on the first day to add to the fun. In this summer camp, we will learn a brief history of pirates, play pirate games, have a pirate treasure hunt, and do a few science projects. Students should pack a snack and water. All supplies needed will be provided.

Summer STEAM Camp


Full S.T.E.A.M. ahead. This fun camp will explore Robotics, Coding, and Stop Motion Movie Making. Using age-appropriate hardware and software, students will learn to code, use their new program skills to control different types of robots, and will learn the basics of making a stop-motion movie. All equipment and supplies are provided but campers are welcome to bring their own Lego and/or action figures to use in making their movie. At the end of the camp, an email will be sent to parents with a link that will enable them to download their child’s movie.

Video Game Design Camp


Don't just play games, learn how to create them! Campers will use both the Kodu and GameMaker game creation software to create and program their own PC-based video game. They will learn about sprites, objects, events, and actions. Design your room, program your player and opponent, and even add sounds. Campers will take home their finished GameMaker game on a flash drive at the end of camp. All equipment including laptops is provided for camp use. No prior experience is necessary.
