New 'On the Go' Businesses are Thriving in Hurst

One form of dining that was greatly enhanced during the COVID pandemic and has remained prominent is the consumers desire to shop with quick service restaurants with drive thru.

Busy personal and professional lives has allowed considerable growth in curbside pick-up and drive thru dining. The new Salad and Go is the perfect example of that as they have experienced successful start-up and growth of offering salad products “on the go”. They have recently opened their 10th DFW drive thru restaurant in Hurst. Another successful example is Dutch Bros Coffee who also recently opened in Hurst on Precinct Line. It’s exciting to see other new restaurants join the extensive food service restaurants in Hurst recently including Laughing Crab Seafood Restaurant, Texas Star BBQ, Wing Stop, Rapalo Coffee Roasters, Golden Chick and Crust Crumbs and Crust. Crust Crumbs and Crust also have an extensive wholesale business as well as retail as they wholesale their fresh bakery products to Williams Sonoma, Central Marketplace and Nieman Marcus.

145 new businesses have opened in Hurst over the last 12 months which has driven overall commercial occupancy in the City to 96%. Office occupancy has lessened slightly to 86% in light of the number of office workers still working from home. Examples of new recent business openings include Hurst Marketplace and Creative Center, Airpets International, Line Drive Instructional Baseball Facility, Mike and Sam Jewelry and Hibbett Sports. North East Mall has added two new stores; TDK Boutique and Attic Salt.

Watch for announcements of other new businesses soon to come to Hurst including DFW Surgical Hospital, Tacusa, Lifted Trucks, Ryan Wayne Salon and Vive Society Fitness Center.

Bedford: Paving the Path to a Thriving Community

Last month, the City unveiled its latest Strategic Plan, positioning economic development at the forefront. With revitalization, economic vitality, and transformation as the plans’ primary strategic focus areas, the City aims to pave the way for a brighter future.

Pictured: Bedford City Council and Planning and Zoning Commission members participate in the city’s Strategic Planning Work Session.

Revitalization - Revitalized storefronts, streets, and neighborhoods attract future residents and businesses to the community. Current revitalization initiatives include a street improvement plan, updating the subdivision and zoning regulations, and developing a strategic redevelopment plan, with special attention to south Bedford. Updates to the subdivision regulations and zoning ordinance have begun, with a new Tree Preservation Ordinance that will better protect the existing natural community character. Furthermore, the City’s Master Plan is undergoing a full redo, which will identify areas ripe for redevelopment and provide sound policies to encourage reinvestment. Check out www.beheardbedford.com to follow the Master Plan’s progress.

Economic Vitality - The promotion of high-quality economic growth and business development will expand and diversify the tax base and enhance residents' quality of life. Current initiatives include developing economic development zones and kickstarting the Bedford Commons Project through the design and funding of Parkwood Drive and the completion of engineering design for the project and its amenity water feature.

Transformation - Bedford is committed to cultivating vibrant, unique spaces that enhance the community. Current initiatives include updating the park master plan, constructing a performing arts center, and creating a signature community event. Constructions plans are almost complete for a 14,500 sq. ft. performing arts center, which will serve as a hub for arts, culture, and entertainment activities. The City’s signature event, Beats and Eats, will be held Labor Day weekend, bringing the Josh Abbott Band, Stoney LaRue, and several popular local cover bands; this event is expected to draw a record number of visitors to the community.

Stay tuned for more updates on these catalytic initiatives!
