Cal State LA receives INSIGHT Into Diversity’s 2023 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity awards

Cal State LA has once again received the Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the nation’s largest and oldest publication dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education. This is the fifth time that Cal State LA has been named as a HEED Award recipient for demonstrating an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion. The University has also received the Health Professions HEED Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity for its success in fostering diversity and inclusion in the Patricia A. Chin School of Nursing at Cal State LA. Read more about the 2023 HEED awards.

Staff Appreciation Breakfast set for Oct. 31

The Staff Appreciation Breakfast will be held Tuesday, Oct. 31, at 9 a.m. in the Golden Eagle Ballrooms. The event recognizes the contributions of University staff members and celebrates milestone work anniversaries. The winner of the Outstanding Staff Award will be announced during the breakfast. Cal State LA celebrates Ability Awareness Month

Cal State LA is celebrating Ability Awareness Month throughout October, featuring interactive activities and workshops, as well as its Annual Ability Awareness 2K on Oct. 26. Students, faculty, and staff are all welcome to participate. Visit the Office for Students with Disabilities website for the listing of events.

Veterans Day Ceremony scheduled for Nov. 9

Cal State LA will commemorate Veterans Day with a ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 9, from 12 to 1 p.m. at the University-Student Union Plaza. The University will be closed on Nov. 10 in observance of Veterans Day. For more information, go to the Veterans Resource Center event calendar.

College of Education hosts Distinguished Educator Awards Dinner

Join the College of Education for its 31st Annual Distinguished Educator Awards Dinner on Friday, Nov. 3, at 5 p.m., in the Golden Eagle Ballroom. The awards dinner will honor five educators who demonstrate excellence, a high level of commitment, and who have made significant contributions to the community. Proceeds from this fundraiser provide scholarships for COE students and professional development for COE faculty and staff. Join Cal State LA Gives Back! for a day of service

Students, faculty, and staff are invited to volunteer and participate in a day of community service at the nonprofit United American Indian Involvement, Inc. in Los Angeles. The Cal State LA Gives Back! event will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 8. Transportation is provided. This service project is organized by the Center for Engagement, Service, and the Public Good. Space is limited, so sign up before Oct. 30 by calling 323-343-3380.

Donate to Cal State LA Canned Food Drive

Support families in our community by donating to the Cal State LA Canned Food Drive, a collaboration between the University and the nonprofit United American Indian Involvement, Inc. Donations of canned goods will be accepted now through Nov. 9. Drop off donations at the Center for Student Involvement or the Center for Engagement, Service, and the Public Good. Give blood at upcoming American Red Cross blood drives

Students, faculty, staff, and community members can give blood on campus during upcoming American Red Cross blood drives on Oct. 26 and Nov. 16. Learn more about the blood drives.

Get a flu shot at the Student Health Center

The CDC recommends that all individuals be vaccinated before the end of October to ensure adequate protection against the flu. Flu vaccines are available at the Student Health Center at no cost to eligible students. The cost for faculty and staff is $20. Payment is accepted by cash or check only. You can schedule an appointment by calling the Student Health Center at 323-343-3302.

Dreamers Resource Center offers virtual UndocuAlly training

The Erika J. Glazer Family Dreamers Resource Center is offering a virtual training workshop that will prepare faculty and staff to be allies for undocumented students. Register online for the training on Monday, Nov. 16. To sign up, complete the UndocuAlly training registration form.
