NUCA Foundation Scholarship
The NUCA Foundation for Education and Research is now accepting applications for the 2022 Scholarship Program. The applicant must be graduating from high school in 2022 and enrolling full time in an accredited two-year or four-year college or university for their freshman year beginning in the fall of 2022.
As a proud member of NUCA of Colorado, this scholarship opportunity is open to all children of HEI Civil employees.
If your child is interested in applying, please ensure they write "HEI Civil" as "NUCA of Colorado Member Firm" on the application.

February is commonly known as the love month and we want to invite all of you to Share the Love for HEI. There are many ways to share the love, but there is one in particular that we want all of you to be aware of- our Employee Referral Program! Share the love by inviting friends, family members, and/or former colleagues to join our HEI Family.
Our Referral Program pays you $200 for each person you refer to HEI Civil that we hire. Here's how the program works:
- You must be an active employee in order to refer someone.
- The applicant must identify you in the Employee Referral Form by entering your first and last name.
- If two persons are named in the form, only the first person named will receive the referral reward.
- Once the referred employee has been employed with us for 90 days, you will be eligible to receive the $200 referral reward.
- Referral rewards are paid via payroll on the second Friday of the month following the 90 days.
- Rehired employees must have been away more than 6 months to be eligible as a referred employee.
- There is no limit on how many candidates you can refer.

Safety
February is Heart Health Awareness Month and Safety would like to mention how lucky we are to have our own certified CPR personnel. Here at HEI, we care about the safety and well-being of every single one of our crew members.
Pedro Estrada and Camille Forte are both certified in CPR training and have recently held trainings in English and Spanish to give our crews the knowledge they need to preform CPR in a medical emergency, confidently.

Camille's Corner
In the field last year, HEI taught crews how to be better bystanders when we conducted our Field Heavy Equipment Rescue training. During our conversation about health-related emergencies, we discussed heart-related complications with a focus on heart attacks.
This medical emergency happens when the heart doesn’t get enough blood to itself and starts to quiver in the chest. Pain/pressure in the chest, feelings of fatigue, headache, lightheadedness, soreness in the jaw, neck, back, one arm or shoulder, and shortness of breath are all symptoms of a heart attack. Women may experience signs such as unexplained fatigue, nausea, or vomiting.
During the Field Heavy Equipment Rescue training, team members were advised how to properly remove someone suffering a medical emergency from a piece of heavy equipment and the steps to follow after extraction. Dialing 911, performing 30 compressions to 2 breaths (30/2), finding an AED, and working together until help arrives were all steps discussed in the Field Equipment Rescue Training.
