Hello Everyone

Well that 2 weeks passed quickly. I don't know about you but I really want some warm sunshine as I am so cold all of the time, especially in the evenings. Maybe it is my old bones!!!!!

In the last newsletter I spoke about Hanny Newton's course and what a lovely 3 days that was, with students wanting to return next year. I think that must tell you how happy they were. Later in the newsletter I will post the work that the students did with Hanny.

But first I need to tell you that I have had two cancellations on Alice Fox's course coming up very soon. I did close bookings on this course as I had enough takers but have since then reopened the bookings if anyone was feeling disappointed at missing out. Get back to me as soon as you can and I will send out all the necessary bits of information.

ALICE FOX ~ 1/2/3 MAY

Weaving the land

Based on her recent book, and I am sure she will have some copies with her, she will on this course be exploring the land around the studio for source material to create simple weave and manipulation techniques.

Alice’s workshops invite the participant to notice the detail that surrounds us and explore the potential of what we find and use these found objects alongside naturally dyed threads.

The course will include: an introduction to some basic weave techniques; a variety of ways to work with found objects and gathered materials; cordage making; techniques for creating 3D structures using threads and found materials.

Activating the Surface

I would love to welcome a few more of you to Moor Hall to attend this short 2 day course with Mary Sleigh. Mary is an exceptional tutor and such fun to be around. Here is what she has to say about the course:

"Activating the surface is rather like exploring a new place, often discovering unlikely connections. I love a way of working where I can gradually create a surface that reveals and conceals ideas and images, adding and hiding as I go along. I’m an avid collector of ephemera, so fragments found along the way often find a place in my work."

Look at the scrummy textures and surfaces in these images above. More details and booking on my website: CLICK HERE

MOOR ART 2

My drawing and painting group that meets on alternate Wednesdays is currently full with a small waiting list, but I do have spaces on Moor Art 2 that meets on a weekend and follows the same work as Moor Art 1.

It is an opportunity to really spend quality time with like minded people exploring new techniques and processes using all kinds of inspiratonal jumping off points and delving into the lives of master artists. This term we will be exploring PATTERN in its widest context: looking at cultural, historical and contemporary uses of pattern.

To join us on this journey click this link below for further information and to book a place. Students may join this group at any time, but maybe pop by to see if it is your cup of tea (and indeed to even have one)

FINALLY

'TEXTILE EXPLORATIONS'

We meeting one Wednesday each month with ample opportunity to progress work between sessions.

Each session provides new and practical tasks that students can choose to take on board or not. What is important that each member of the group goes on his or her own personal journey documenting progress on route and not knowing the destination. Keeping a sketchbook of trials and samples is key to being in this course showing this development of ideas.

In the last session we played with Plaster of Paris to manipulate the fabric......we had lost of fun doing this!

22nd April (on Zoom), 20th May, 17th June, possibly 15th July. (face to face)
