Dear Hosack Families,
Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year! Whether you are returning to Hosack or joining our school community for the first time, we are delighted to welcome you. We are excited to begin another year of learning, growth, and connection with our amazing students and families.
Our teachers and staff have been busy preparing engaging learning experiences, welcoming classrooms, and opportunities that will challenge, inspire, and support every child. We are committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment where all students feel a sense of belonging and are encouraged to grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
At Hosack Elementary, we know that student success is built on a strong partnership between home and school. We are grateful for the trust you place in us each day and recognize the important role families play in every child's educational journey. Open communication, collaboration, and mutual support help create the foundation for a successful and rewarding school experience. We encourage you to stay connected through our school communications, participate in school events, and reach out whenever you have questions or ideas to share. Please remember to sign up for our Parent Faculty Association, which sponsors so many incredible opportunities for our HES community.

The Hosack Elementary Handbook is designed to provide you with the information you need about our school’s procedures, programs, and activities. Please use this handbook for guidance and reference throughout the academic year. Once you read through the information, please contact the school’s office if you have any specific questions.
A handbook and code of conduct sign-off form will be available the week of August 3 in PowerSchool. Please sign off that you have reviewed and understand the handbook and NASD Code of Conduct. Completing this PowerSchool form will ensure that you have access to PowerSchool to view schedules on the release date.
| | FACILITIES FOR THE FUTURE PARENT MEETING | | We are excited to invite you to an upcoming parent meeting to discuss the future of our school building. On Thursday, August 6, 2026, at 6:00 PM, we will host a community discussion at Hosack Elementary School to review the upcoming facility renovations. During this informative session, our team will provide a detailed overview of the proposed renovations, outline the project timelines, and present draft renderings of the planned visual designs. Your feedback and presence are highly valued as we embark on this exciting new chapter for our school community. Although our District supplies many of the items that your student needs, there may be some additional items your child’s teacher requests that they bring to school.

| | ARRIVAL & DISMISSAL AT HOSACK ELEMENTARY | | |

Arrival begins at 8:50 AM. Students taking the bus will be dismissed into the main entrance. Parents who are dropping their students off should follow the green arrows on the map below to line up for drop-off. Students should exit out of the car door that is closest to the sidewalk. Students should not exit the car until staff is outside and the doors are open. Parents are not permitted into the building unless they enter through the main entrance and complete the Raptor Identification Process.
Dismissal will begin at 3:25 PM. Students will be called from their homeroom to their bus over the intercom system. We will have extra staff in place to ensure that all students, especially our youngest, get on the correct bus. Bus tags will be sent prior to the first day. Please fill these out and place them on your child’s backpack. AM Kindergarten students should list their morning bus on these cards and not their pick-up numbers.
We will still be using our card number system for students getting picked up. These numbered cards will be sent home with students on their first day. After the 3:25 PM bell, pick-up students will be dismissed from their homeroom to the area near the drop-off loop. Staff members will dismiss students to their parents/guardians after verifying the numbers.

BUS ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE AVAILABLE IN PowerSchool

Student bus assignments will be available in PowerSchool on August 6, 2026, by approximately 6:00 PM.
- To locate your student’s bus assignment, log into PowerSchool, locate the navigation menu, and select the Transportation Info button (which features a yellow school bus icon). From there, you’ll be presented with your student’s transportation information, including times and address intersections.

- Drivers are testing routes at the end of July/early August, which may result in a change to your student's bus assignment.
- If your student's transportation is provided by a non-NASD transportation company, you will be contacted separately with the bus assignment.

All classes will begin on Tuesday, August 18. The normal school day runs from 9:00 AM - 3:30 PM.
- Doors open at 8:50 AM with dismissal beginning at 3:25 pm.
| | Grades 3-5 will again be departmentalizing, meaning that one teacher will be responsible for teaching a specific subject(s) for multiple classes. Please note that Science and Social Studies will rotate each nine weeks. Your child’s homeroom teacher will be sharing more information about the schedule in the coming weeks. | |

Grades K-2 will continue being self-contained, meaning that their homeroom teacher will be responsible for all academic subjects.
We will continue using Canvas as our learning management system. Teachers will post specific information for each class to Canvas for students and families to view.
Specific information about instruction and other classroom information will be shared during Open House, PFA meetings, and other school communications.
| | Welcome back to HES! We hope everyone had a healthy, safe, and fun summer! Mrs. Crawford and Mrs. Thompson will be back at HES this school year, ready to take care of any health issues or injuries that may occur. As always, you can access all NASD Health Services Forms and Information online. We will see you all soon! | | HOSACK NEWSLETTER & COMMUNICATION | | Please be sure to check your email every Friday for the NASD Newsletter, which will also feature the Hosack Happenings Newsletter. The first newsletter for the school year will be on August 14. You can also stay updated on news via NASD and HES social media platforms. | | GRADE 5 CAMP KON-O-KWEE EXPERIENCE | | HES Grade 5 students will participate in our Camp Kon-O-Kwee outdoor educational experience on September 24 & 25. Parents/guardians are a vital part of the Hosack community! The PFA sponsors our school field trips, assemblies, class parties, and many other special events throughout the school year! We encourage you to join the HES PFA today.
Important Note: Due to construction beginning in the spring of 2027, we will be holding our annual field day on October 9, 2026. All volunteer clearances must be current to assist during Field Day.
