HES Girls on the Run 2023

Girls on the Run is a small self-esteem group for girls in grades 3rd-8th. This fall, they met twice per week after school. The curriculum inspires girls to develop life skills in the areas of confidence, competence, connection, and character. The 12-week program ended with the HES girls completing a 5K in Savannah, Georgia.

Making a Difference in the Community

The Student Government Association of Ridgeland Secondary Academy of Excellence sent out the challenge in support of the Hunger Free Zone and asked for donations. The students and staff of RSAE rallied to the call of the SGA and collected 782 canned goods surpassing their target goal of 700.

Dr. Tom Balliet Participates

Dr. Tom Balliet, JCSD District 06 Board Trustee, represented the Jasper County School Board of Trustees at the SCSBA Annual Legislative Conference, December 2-3, 2023, in Charleston, S.C., as the delegate.

The SCSBA Legislative Advocacy Conference sets the stage for all the legislative action that takes place from January through June each year in our state’s capitol. Participants learn what will likely be the General Assembly’s top education issues in 2024 from state political, policy and budgetary leaders and find out how their voice can make a difference!

This Week in Jasper Sports

Special Olympics Bowling Competition

Jasper County School District participated in a Special Olympics sporting event! Great vibes at Station 300 in Bluffton, SC. In collaboration with the SC State Department of Education and Beaufort County School District, our scholars had the opportunity to compete in a bowling competition with their peers. There were smiles, high fives, and lots of pins knocked down. It was a joyful occasion enjoyed by all.

STEM at RES

Ridgeland Elementary School students participated in engaging activities on the STEM Bus! Students learned to code robotic cars by creating a set of codes for the robot to follow. Students learned that coding is used to build programs, websites, and data processing. Additionally, students worked through the Engineering Design Process (EDP) to design their own home while only using straws, which included various components such as being sturdy, having at least four walls, and a roof, or creating their own car that must roll while being pushed without the wheels falling off. The focus of each lesson was for students to plan and carry out an investigation while constructing and designing using the EDP.
