August 26, 2021
Dear Hart Families,

Thank you for your patience and grace this week while we mastered our new arrival and dismissal system. I know that many of you were frustrated, and I can promise you that I was also frustrated. As our week progressed, our arrival and dismissal process improved each day. Here are few tips to help:

  • We are now accepting students beginning at 7:15 each morning. They will go to the cafeteria where they will be socially distanced by grade level, and then they will be released at 7:30 to go to their classroom.
  • If you drop off between 7:15 - 7:35, you will have a minimal wait.
  • Please have your child ready to jump out in the morning.
  • Please pull all the way forward.
  • Please do not make U turns in residents' driveways on Honeysuckle Rd.

I also wanted to clarify the letter that I send home when we have a positive COVID case. You are receiving the letter if your child was exposed to a positive case. This means that you are receiving the letter because there is a positive case either in your child's homeroom classroom or their specials' group for Kindergarten - 2nd graders. We are re-evaluating our color groups for Kindergarten - 2nd grade.

Lastly, I want you to notice the Save the Date for our school talent show which will be Friday, March 4th. This is the Friday before we are out for Spring Break. I know many families plan trips early, and I wanted you to have this date so you could plan your vacation accordingly.

I hope that you enjoy your weekend, and if you happen to be traveling to Waco to watch our Leopard football team, I look forward to seeing you there. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me.

All My Best,
Wendy Craft

Reading Academy for Kinder - 2nd grade Teachers
Per House Bill 3 (HB 3), passed by the 86th Texas Legislature in June of 2019, all kindergarten through third grade teachers and principals must complete a Texas Reading Academy by the end of the 2022-2023 school year. The goal of the Texas Reading Academies is to increase teachers’ and principals’ knowledge and implementation of evidence-based practices to positively impact student literacy achievement.
One day a week for the 2021-2022 school year, district K-2 teachers, support SPED staff, and campus administrators will be participating in the group sessions for an hour and a half. Students will participate in enrichment rotations during this time. During training sessions teachers and principals will increase their knowledge of the science of teaching reading to support students’ ability to decode words, understand spoken language, and improve reading comprehension.
As reading and writing are foundational to school success, LISD will continue working with the Texas Education Agency to ensure that all students have access to high-quality reading and writing instruction and highly effective teachers.
