November 18, 2021
Dear Hart Families,

Happy Thursday! Wow, the month of November has flown by, and I know that our students are excited about taking a break from school to enjoy Thanksgiving.

We need your help on a couple of things. As a reminder, it is against Lovejoy ISD cell phone policy for students in Kindergarten - Fourth Grade to have cell phones out at school unless they have special permission. Students are not allowed to call or text during the school day. This includes watches. If your child is wearing a watch, please remind them that they can not call or text. Secondly, if you are eating lunch with your child outside, please sit and eat lunch with your child. This is not a time for students to be running around, screaming, or climbing trees. We do have classes being held on that side of the building, and we need to be mindful of our behavior so we are not interrupting instruction. Thank you in advance for your help.

As a reminder, our Volleyball team will be competing in the state semi-finals tomorrow at 11:00 am. We ask for your assistance in helping us have as little impact as possible on our attendance numbers, which are directly tied to state funding. With that in mind, each campus will offer our students an excused absence if:
  • The student checks out at 9:30 AM or later on Friday
  • The student brings a ticket stub from the game to the front office on Monday, November 29 (Please print your student’s name on the ticket stub prior to submitting it to the office.)

We are asking that you line up in car line with your car number displayed, and we will release students to you like we do each afternoon. We will record car numbers, and then we will release students. You do NOT need to get out of your car. Your child must be on this Early Release list for checking out. Please complete the form below by tonight at 8:00 pm.
With the Thanksgiving holiday approaching next week, I am reminded of how thankful I am for our Lovejoy community. This is a unique place, and I am grateful to be part of it. I hope that you have a happy and safe Thanksgiving creating lifelong memories with your family.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me.

All My Best,

Lucas Fire Department: Reading with Kinder,1st, & 2nd
The Lucas Fire Department started reading with our Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade students this past Monday. The students love when the firemen come to their classes each month. The Fire Department will be coming to read each Monday morning at 8:10 am and are here until about 8:45 am. We wanted for you to be aware of this so if you drive by on a Monday morning and see the fire trucks, you will not be concerned.

Kids Heart Challenge: Last Chance!
It’s the last chance to join Kids Heart Challenge! Our KHC will end this Friday, November 19th. Kids Heart Challenge benefits our school by providing valuable health & wellness resources for our community and classrooms, PE equipment, and funding for our school and PE program. Joining the Kids Heart Challenge, raising awareness, and supporting the American Heart Association helps save lives. Students can also earn awesome thank you gifts! Thank you for your continued support of our school and the AHA.
12 Days of Christmas
Please join us in counting down the school days before Christmas. We will celebrate each day in a different way and would love for our students to participate.

Why Attendance Matters
How important is it for kids to be in school?
School attendance is a baseline factor in determining school success. A missed school day is a missed opportunity for students to learn. Regular attendance fosters a classroom connection between teachers and students. Attending school also provides time for social interactions with peers.

Did you know that?
Attendance is the most significant driver in the funding Lovejoy ISD receives from the state each year?
A 3% reduction in the yearly average daily attendance (ADA) can cause the district to lose $800,000 in funding.
An increase of 1% in the yearly ADA can fund 3 teachers’ salaries.
Although it may seem insignificant that the district loses $50 a day when a student is absent, consider the impact when 250 students are absent across the district and the district loses $12,500. Multiply that by 15 days and it is a loss of $187,500. The impact is significant.
Attendance taken at 10 AM determines the ADA funding that Lovejoy ISD receives for that date. If the student is on campus at that time, LISD receives approximately $50.00 per student. If a student is absent, ADA is lost.

Dads at Hart
We have opened up the Dad’s at Hart calendar and dads can now select a second date! Please follow our sign-up instructions found here: Sign Up Instructions. The Dads@Hart program offers an opportunity to spend one full day in your child’s classroom and assist with activities on campus.
