September 2, 2022

Dear Parents,

We have concluded our third week of school! This week, it was so nice to have our Dad's@Hart and lunch guests in the building.  I just want to share a few reminders for our parents.

  • Our teachers are busy teaching during the day.  If you email them, then they might not have an opportunity to respond to you until after school.  Please call the office if you have an emergency or have a question.

  • As a reminder, our school day begins at 7:55.  If your child is not in the building by 7:55, they will receive a tardy slip.

  • We have had several complaints from the homeowners on Spurgin Road, if you are parking on this road, please park in the grass along the Hart fence line.  Do not block any driveway.  If we can not abide by this, then we will have to implement a new system where only students who live in the neighborhood will be allowed to exit that way. Thank you in advance for helping us with this matter.

A big thank you to Mr. Butler, Mr. Wiltin, and Mr. Stovall for mowing our playground and around our school.  We really appreciate you jumping in and helping us out.  As you know, our maintenance department is very small, and due to the rain and some illness, they have fallen behind on the district's grounds schedule.  We appreciate these Dads jumping in to create a safe playground for our students.

I hope that you have a happy & safe 4 day weekend!  We will see everyone on Wednesday, September 7th!

As always, if you have any questions or concerns please let me know.

All My Best,

Wendy Craft

School Dismissal Manager: Action Needed!

We need all parents to set up your School Dismissal Manager account. If you have not set your default for School Dismissal Manager, please contact Janean Mancini at [email protected] or 469.742.8200.

IMPORTANT ATTENDANCE REMINDERS & UPDATES

All families should have received their campus’ Beginning of Year Truancy Letter, via Bright Arrow. We felt that it was important to follow up with additional information.

In addition to the Compulsory Attendance Law that was addressed in the letter, there is also the 90% law; state law mandates that a student is in attendance at least 90 percent of the academic year.

In order to receive credit for a final grade in a class, a student is required to attend 90% of the days a class is offered, regardless of whether the student’s absences are excused or unexcused.

All absences count towards the 90% law and Truancy, except for the following absences with the proper documentation:

  • Religious Holidays with written request prior to the absence
  • Attending a required court appearance
  • UIL eligible absences- Educational Competition administered by school staff
  • Academic, Athletic, and music contests (uiltexas.org)
  • Medical-Related absences, when the student attended a portion of the school day and presents documentation from the health care professional for the same day
  • All day Medical-Related absences do NOT exempt a student from the 90% law or Truancy. Medical Documentation for a full day absence is only used in consideration by the Attendance Committee)
  • Sounding “Taps” at a military honors funeral held in Texas

Attendance notes for an absence must be submitted to your student’s campus no later than 5 school days after the absence. Notes will NOT be accepted after the 5th day, and your student’s attendance will not be changed.

Absence notification timeline, all absences are counted, (excused and unexcused):

  • A letter will be sent home if your student is absent 3 times in a 4 week period
  • Another letter will be sent home once the student has accrued 6 absences
  • Intervention will begin with the campus attendance committee
  • A 10 day letter will be sent home once the student accrues 10 absences
  • Your student can be referred to Truancy Court

Although we know that students will get sick or other challenges may arise during the school year, consistent and timely school attendance is of the utmost importance. We all share the goal of enabling the students to reach their full potential and achieve all of their educational goals. The way to allow a student to reach their full potential and educational goals starts with consistent and timely attendance.

We are excited that the district will be utilizing Bright Arrow which will allow teachers to send "blast" texts and emails to our parents. As part of the district's Technology Acceptable Use Policy, we are asking teachers to refrain from texting with our parents. We are doing this in order to preserve our teacher's personal time and ensure confidentiality for all students. We know communication is important, and we encourage you to email, send a message in SeeSaw, or call the teacher on the school line. Thank you in advance for understanding.

Visitors: Please Scan QR Code Before Entering

All Visitors must scan the QR Code located on the HES entry door before entering the building. We are doing our best to keep everyone safe and healthy.

Absences and Dismissal Changes

If your student will be ABSENT, please email Alis Brantl at [email protected]. We need the email as documentation for our records.

If you have a DISMISSAL CHANGE for your student and either cannot access School Dismissal Manager or it is after 2:00, please email or call Janean Mancini at [email protected].

Checking Your Student Out Before 3:00pm?

If you need to check out your student before the end of the day, please do so by 2:30pm. Anytime after that is difficult to get out of the parking lot. If you are checking out early, you do not need to put it in SDM. Thanks for your help with this!

School Start & End Times

Our school day begins at 7:55am each day, and we end at 3:10pm. If students are not in their seats by 7:55am, then they are considered tardy.

  • Borrowed Clothing: Kids from all grade levels during the school year come to the clinic for a change of clothing for various reasons (falling in mud, bathroom accidents, etc.). We try to loan out clothes when possible. The clinic needs boys and girls clothing in every elementary age, especially pants/shorts as well as clean/unused underwear sizes 4, 5, and 6.
  • You may want to have your child keep a change of clothes in their backpack if they frequently need a change of clothes or are in grade levels Kindergarten through 1st grade. In order for us to help other children, please return any borrowed clothing (except underwear) after washing to the clinic.
