Out-Of-Province/Country Travel Medical Emergency Coverage

You’re heading off for a long overdue vacation. You’ve got Chambers Plan Travel Health coverage, so you’re protected in an emergency. But dealing with out-of-country medical services can be complicated. Preparation prior to travel is key because when you’re in a medical event, you want the process to run as smoothly as possible. The following are important recommendations for a better experience when accessing travel coverage.

Carry a Printed Version of Your Benefits Card

All your benefit information, including a copy of your benefits card, can be found on my-benefits®. Your card includes your group, certificate, and account numbers as well as contact phone numbers for assistance while traveling. This is available online anytime, but in the event you can’t connect to your online information, keeping a printed copy of your benefits card in your wallet allows you to easily access emergency medical travel assistance.

Coverage Eligibility

In the event of a medical emergency, you must contact Voyage Assistance immediately to confirm your coverage and to access the covered services. The toll-free emergency numbers are on your Chambers Plan Benefits card.

We suggest you print and carry this card with you at all times.

This information is available online through your my-benefits® app. The maximum trip duration:

- up to age 65 is 180 days,

- age 65-69 is 90 days,

- age 70-74 is 60 days,

- age 75-80 is 30 days.

Please see your benefits summary and the Voyage Assistance Brochure for complete details of coverage and restrictions.

When one of your employees becomes disabled and has been approved for Group Long Term Disability (LTD) benefit payments, what happens to their health and dental benefits? Do they continue indefinitely? Do they contribute towards the cost of their health and dental benefits? How do you balance your corporate responsibility to your employee while addressing your fiscal responsibility to your company?

Whatever your firm’s position, it is important that your company have a formal Continuation of Benefits provision that clearly states what the policy is for all employees should they ever become disabled. By establishing company policies and procedures now, you ensure that all employees are treated fairly if a disability precludes them from active employment in the future.

Updating Salary Changes is Now Easier

We are pleased to announce the launch of a new salary update function in my-benefits®. Now you can download a template and update multiple salaries off-line. Once the changes are made, you can upload the document, which will update all the salaries at once. Here’s how it works. (Please note, this function does not apply to clients who use Tandem or HRIS).

Go to Update Employee Earnings on my-benefits.ca and, from the box in the top-right, download the Excel template for earnings changes.
