Innovative Strategies For Successful Population Health Management was a fantastic educational and networking event.
Our moderator, Jay Shiver,and distinguished panelist not only shared their ideas but their interaction and responses to the audience's, comments, questions and concerns created a dialogue that made for a very educational and thought provoking evening.

Presentation Summary:"Principles of Quality Improvement in Healthcare: Not Just for Clinicians."
Improving HOW leads to improving How Much - don't just crack the whip. Using the Deming 85/15 Rule, design changes so everyone participates and benefits from improvement. The primary goal of a PDSA cycle is understanding the microsystem, while the effects of a series of PDSA cycles is improvement. From this presentation, attendees will learn key QI knowledge, skills and attitudes, and the importance of using a balanced set of metrics

Kevin Shannon, MD, MPH, first learned QI from Paul Batalden and Gene Nelson at Dartmouth Medical School. Since then he has applied the principles in the United States in a variety of outpatient practice settings, and in Africa in hospital and public health settings. He is now an associate professor at Loma Linda University School of Medicine, teaching the required Preventive Medicine clerkship, where all medical students study and apply the principles of QI. He is the Medical Director of Quality and Safety at SAC Health System in San Bernardino, CA.
