Dear Horizons at GSFS Community,
We hope you had a joyful and healthy holiday season. We enjoyed many activities during the holiday season attending the movies together with our students to see Strange World, hosting our monthly homework hour, and dropping off holiday goodie bags to our families. A special thank you to our Board of Directors for aiding us in the goodie bag drop off. It is due to their support that we are able to continue to serve our families.
It is hard to believe that it is already 2023! We are beginning to prepare for this summer’s program; we will begin to hire for our summer staff this month into next, and we will begin enrolling our families at the end of this month. If you know anyone in the education industry who is interested in working with Horizons, please have them email Monica Quarrie at mquarrie@greenestreetfriends.org.
We are continuing to have events for our students throughout the spring term. We are moving our homework hour to a bimonthly basis so we can offer our students more academic support. We are finishing our Book Club for our students, and gave those who participated a special treat.
We are introducing a monthly social and emotional wellness group session for our students. It will be guided by a licensed professional and our family engagement specialist. This is an opportunity for our students to come together, share glows and grows, and receive SEL support. We are really happy to be able to offer our students this support during the school year, it is a good opportunity to check in and still offer these important resources. Additionally, we are continuing to have high school school choice information sessions for our Sixth and Seventh Grade students and their caregivers.
