Aloha Lenders,
Since the most recent training, HHFDC has updated the First-Time Homebuyer definition as follows to comply with current Hawaii Revised Statutes and Administrative Rules:
-
With DPA: A first-time homebuyer means the borrower must not have had any ownership interest in any residence at any time during the three (3) year period prior to the date on which the Mortgage Loan is applied for.
-
Without DPA: A first-time homebuyer means the borrower must not have owned a principal residence at any time during the three (3) year period prior to the date on which the Mortgage Loan is applied for.
The 1003 loan application will serve as the date of application for determining first-time homebuyer status.
The Hale Kamaʻāina Program is expected to launch the week of November 18, 2025.
