HHS Conference Committee Releases Budget, Now On to the Governor
On May 1, the Health and Human Services budget conference committee released its agreed-to language between the House and Senate, which was developed over the weekend without public input. Now, negotiations will begin with Gov. Mark Dayton. Read more here.
MMA Supports Bill to Raise Minimum Age to Purchase Tobacco to 21
Five state senators introduced a bill on May 3 that recommends raising the minimum legal sale age for tobacco products from 18 to 21. This follows the City of Edina's vote on May 2 to do the same within city limits. Read more here.

Pro Vaccine Measure Fails to Move Forward on House Floor
On May 1, Rep. Ilhan Omar introduced a bill to provide $500,000 in grants to promote culturally competent vaccination education in communities with low immunization rates. In an effort to expedite action on the bill, she attempted to use a procedural motion to bring the bill to immediate consideration by the House. It didn't work. Read more here
2 Physicians Honored for Preceptor Work 
Two primary care physicians, who are active preceptors for medical students in the Twin Cities, were honored on May 3 at the University of Minnesota Medical School's Dean's Tribute to Excellence in Education event held at the Weisman Art Museum. Read more here.
