Vicar's Notes

I'm glad to report that our pilgrims arrived safely in Scotland this morning. They are currently touring Edinburgh. They will return next Thursday. Please pray for their safe journey.

Vacation Bible School is in full swing. 95 children are full of energy all around us. Their joy is infectious. I am in awe at the creativity of Renee Stephens, our Director of Membership and Children's Ministry. Megan Atkinson, our Director of Youth, Young Adults, and Family Ministry is also hard at work coordinating the 45 youth and adult volunteers. Thanks to all those who volunteered in one way or another with snacks, decorating, teaching, guiding, and organizing. This week, we are planting seeds that will flourish for years to come - well done, good and faithful servants!

We have several volunteer spots left for the Habitat for Humanity builds over the next few Saturdays. Please scroll down or click here to register now so that we do not lose our spots.

The Rev. KC Crewdson's ordination invitation is pasted below. June 23 at 2:00 pm at the Cathedral.

And finally, please join me at the Jersey Boys production benefitting the CAC. More details are below. But email Caroline now to get one of the final six discounted tickets. More are available on the CAC website, but not at this rate!

God bless and safe travels to all.

VBS Celebration & BBQ

We will celebrate VBS this Sunday, June 9 at the 10:15 AM service. The kids will sing their theme song of the week Trust and Follow. After the service please stay for hotdogs, Dreamland BBQ, and PIE! Everything will be provided except dessert! Bring your best PIE for the contest. We’ll have fruit and non-fruit categories. The entry fee is $20, benefitting our Children’s Ministry. There are two great prizes, and those who enter will also go home with a little something. We’ll also have a bake sale if pie is not your best dish. Register your pie ahead of time if you like.

What can I say? | Thanks from Ruth

You all blessed me. And I am deeply grateful.

When Jacob dreamed his dream about angels ascending and descending on a ladder from earth to heaven and the lord attending him in his sleep, he woke up and said:

“This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.”

That’s how it felt for me celebrating Holy Eucharist with you at the altar on Sunday morning. Like heaven and earth opened to the Glory of God, all the beauty and holiness, the power and presence of the Holy Spirit, and, most profoundly, the real presence of Christ in the words themselves.

That was the strange difference in it this time. In the words we say over and over and over again, the words of our devotion and meticulous homage to make Eucharist, there was no third person effect. The Lord himself was, if you will, speaking directly to all of us, gifting us again with the sacred mystery of holy communion. The print even looked three dimensional on the page.

The words were so profound I could barely speak them. I choked my way through. But in that vulnerable place, I could sense your love and presence, as if you were experiencing the words the same way I was, as directly from Christ himself. Like he had something to say to us, and we got in close, and the Holy Spirit filled us with love and joy.

What a privilege to be engaged with such a community of faith as you, one who is given to love.

It was such a fun day with surprises galore, a beautiful new stole, people who worked hard to prepare food and treats and to make it all perfect. So much fun!

As I said, I am deeply grateful. God Bless you as you have blessed me.

Love,

Ruth+
