Season of Gratitude
Wow—what a response!
We are filled with gratitude for 162 pledges totaling $1,186,844 so far. You have responded so much more quickly than last year—thank you!
We know these are uncertain times financially, but a pledge is simply a statement of faith and intention, not a binding contract. Life happens, and we understand. Together we strive to give out of gratitude for what God has given us. Every gift, large or small, helps us build this community of love and hope.

Wear Your Jersey Sunday
The Rev. Dr. Bill Murray, Rector
I am generally proud of my ministry and resume. I do not use it very often. At this point in my life, I only share it when random groups ask me to come and speak. They politely ask if I have a C.V. or some background information to share so that they can introduce me. I will send over my list of jobs, achievements, and random facts of family and life. The first thing people always ask is the same: "Were you really the mascot in college?"
I had a blast running around as a 20-year-old idiot in a fur suit at both football and basketball games. The mascot for the University of Memphis is called Pouncer, a large tiger. We were pretty terrible in football. The balance was that we were great in basketball. Either way, I got to run around, fall down, and make people laugh. They wanted to take their picture with me, handed me their babies, and loved it when I came to their area of the stadium. I was a strange living embodiment of all they loved about their team and their school.
This Sunday, we encourage everyone to wear their favorite team's colors or jerseys. Why? To share something about our lives and what we like, to give a glimpse into who we are, to laugh and celebrate part of the world that doesn't have to be oppositional. I loved being the mascot because we could laugh at just about everything - from the refs, to the fans, to the team, to the coaches, and to the idiot kid in a fur suit. After all, Victor Borge said it best, "Laughter is the shortest distance between two people."

FROM FRANKENSTEIN TO CLONES: PLAYING GOD
On Sunday, November 9, as we observe All Souls and All Saints, we will help us examine human beings as creators in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and Kazuo Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go. Together, we’ll wrestle with the haunting question: What obligation does the creator have to its creation?
Adult Formation at 9:00 am in Inglett Hall
Led by longtime parishioner Holly Chesser and The Rev. John Porter. Holly teaches Upper School English at the Lovett School, holds a B.A. in English Language and Literature from the University of Virginia, and an M.A. in Educational Psychology from the University of Connecticut. John is, well, he’s still John.

CAC & Solidarity Christmas Outreach
Christmas gift-giving is one of the season’s most meaningful traditions, rooted in our faith and the joy of sharing with others. This year, we’re once again partnering with Solidarity and the Community Assistance Center (CAC) through their Adopt-a-Family programs—bringing the magic of Christmas morning to more than 150 children in need right here in our community.
Beginning Sunday, November 9, visit Bishop Commons to browse children’s wish lists and “adopt” a child or family. Simply select a list that speaks to you, shop for the requested gifts, and return your unwrapped items to the church by Sunday, December 1. We’ll make sure your gifts are delivered in time for Christmas through CAC or Solidarity. Gift guidelines and additional details will be provided with the wish lists.
Let’s come together to make Christmas morning merry and bright for our neighbors and their children! For more information, contact Jan Paul at Janpaul1005@gmail.com or Charles Crosby at Charles@corepm.net

Jersey Sunday
Sunday, November 9
As the football season winds down and the basketball seasons kicks in, we thought it would be fun to invite folks of any and all ages to wear the jersey of their favorite team to church. Feel free to wear a jersey, branded shirt or sweatshirt, or even just the team colors. Wear a baseball jersey, a football jacket, basketball socks, or mix and match all three. Come and see who else pulls for the same team or just share your pride for your alma mater.

Changes and Chances
A Grief Workshop
A workshop for all kinds of grief.
We are Practicing the Pastoral Arts. We are not about becoming artists, or even creating a “work of art”. Instead, we are being brave enough to let the art do its work with us. Join us on Wednesdays, November 12 & 19, at 10:30-12:00 PM or Thursdays, November 13 & 20, at 6:00-7:30 PM.
Art is powerful, freeing, and healing. It is evocative. Pastoral Art is a mindful mixed media approach to making something with our spiritual lives. We experiment with art supplies because it gives us access to the uncharted, untapped riches of the soul and the possibility for deep healing. We don’t have to be “creative” or “artistic” to engage in Pastoral Arts. We simply look, and listen, and oftentimes we wait; and I dare say, we play.
With this grief workshop, showing up is the hard part, but it is enough.
