Flip Into Lent With Us: Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper

Megan Atkinson

Shrove Tuesday, sometimes called Pancake Day, is a joyful tradition in the life of the Church. The word shrove comes from “shriving,” meaning confession and preparation before the season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday. Long ago, families would use up rich ingredients like eggs, milk, butter, and sugar- foods that were often given up during Lent- by making pancakes and sharing them together. Over time, this became less about practicality and more about gathering, celebrating, and enjoying fellowship before the quieter, more reflective season of Lent.

We would love for you to be part of this tradition with us tonight at our Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. Come enjoy pancakes, bacon, biscuits, and more, along with live music and wonderful fellowship. This event is being hosted by our youth group, and all proceeds will go toward a special summer program, helping keep our students engaged, connected, and growing in community while they are out of school. The cost is $10 per person, and children under 5 eat free. Thank you for supporting our youth, and we hope you will join us and come hungry.

The Gospel versus Tony Soprano:

What Are Ethics in the 21st Century?

Sundays at 9:00 AM | March 8 - 29

During Lent, Bill Murray and John Porter will lead a lively, thoughtful exploration of the HBO series The Sopranos as a modern morality play. Using selected scenes and guided conversation, we’ll wrestle with questions of sin and self-deception, happiness and misery, integrity, and compartmentalization, asking what it really means to live a morally good life. Set alongside Jesus’ teaching that we are known by our fruits, Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics, and Post-modern Nihilism, this class invites honest reflection, spirited discussion, and a deeper look at the stories that shape us.

Refreshments at 6:30 PM, program from 7:00-8:15 PM. Meetings will alternate between Temple Sinai and HIEC, beginning at Temple Sinai.
