Q: Tell us a little about yourself and your professional background. I've been fortunate to build a career across biomedical research, healthcare consulting, telehealth, clinical operations, academia and digital transformation. Today, I serve as Director of IT Innovation at Frederick Health, where I help lead the organization's digital strategy and innovation efforts.
Q: What sparked your interest in healthcare and technology?
I've always been fascinated by the intersection of healthcare and innovation. In 1999, while working for a consulting firm, I interviewed a physician leader who described a future where new parents could go home with connected devices that transmitted information directly to the emergency department. At the time, it sounded like science fiction, but it sparked my interest in how technology could improve access, quality and efficiency in healthcare. More than 25 years later, I'm still passionate about finding new ways technology can improve care delivery.
Q: What are you most proud of professionally?
Honestly, not giving up on the vision. I've been talking about telehealth for more than 25 years, including presentations from the early 2000s on virtual care and even the possibility of global pandemics. When COVID arrived, I was grateful that years of work helped our organization quickly pivot to a more digital model of care. Today, the challenge is finding the right balance between digital and traditional healthcare experiences. Seeing that work make a real difference for patients and clinicians remains incredibly rewarding.
| | | |
Q: What expertise do you hope to bring to the Board?
My background is rooted in healthcare innovation, digital transformation, telehealth, artificial intelligence and strategic planning. Every board member brings a unique perspective, and I hope to represent the challenges and opportunities facing healthcare technology leaders today. Most importantly, I want to contribute practical insights that support the chapter's mission and future direction.
Q: What healthcare trend excites you most right now?
AI, without question. We're at a fascinating point where we're just beginning to understand what's possible. It reminds me of where telehealth was 25 years ago, but today, everyone is talking about AI. While no single technology will solve every healthcare challenge, AI has tremendous potential to support clinicians, improve workflows and create better patient experiences. I'm excited to see how the industry learns to apply it thoughtfully and responsibly.
Q: What message would you like to share with chapter members?
I'm honored to serve on the Board and excited to work alongside such a talented community of healthcare and technology professionals. Healthcare is evolving faster than ever, and collaboration is increasingly important. I look forward to learning from our members, supporting professional growth, and fostering the connections and innovation that move our industry forward.

The Maryland HIMSS Chapter is proud to announce a $5,000 donation to Health Care for the Homeless, our adopted charitable partner dedicated to improving the health and well-being of Maryland's most vulnerable residents.
This contribution reflects our chapter's ongoing commitment to advancing not only healthcare technology and innovation, but also the health of the communities we serve. Health Care for the Homeless has been a leading force in Maryland for decades, providing comprehensive medical care, behavioral health services, housing support, and critical resources to individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Their work helps thousands of Marylanders access the care and support they need to build healthier, more stable lives.
The donation was made possible through the generosity and engagement of our Maryland HIMSS members, sponsors, and supporters throughout the year. By partnering with organizations that address social determinants of health and expand access to care, we are helping to strengthen the overall health ecosystem across our state.
“Technology and innovation play a vital role in transforming healthcare, but meaningful change also requires supporting organizations that meet people where they are,” said chapter President, Cindy Carson. “We are honored once again to support Health Care for the Homeless and their mission of providing compassionate, high-quality care to those who need it most.”
The Maryland HIMSS Chapter remains committed to fostering collaboration, advancing healthcare innovation, and giving back to our communities. We thank our members and partners for making this contribution possible and for helping us create a lasting impact beyond the walls of healthcare organizations. Together, we are advancing health, improving lives, and strengthening communities across Maryland.
