Message from the CEO
At HIC 2017 we saw HISAs newest communities of practice gaining momentum. The groups UX, Cybersecurity, E-Safety and Clinical Informatics are led by expert practitioners and are now planning a series of initiatives beyond HIC for the next year. Our nursing informatics special interest group (NIA) and the Digital Hospital Design group have been a strong presence at HIC for many years and are well established. All of these offer a national and international perspective and its an important way members are contributing to the digital health landscape sharing knowledge, building networks, influencing the agenda. In our branches, members are continuing to contribute at the State level. All branches are working on their strategic plans for the next two years. WA is currently distributing a national survey to provide data for a HISA submission into the Government review of the WA health system. (More on that below). There is also a major cybersecurity survey out for your input. Whether you are involved in your State branch as an active participant, or are contributing to a specific Community of Practice, your voice is being heard. Thank you!

HISA goes to the CheckUP Forum
HISAs digital health community was profiled at the recent CheckUP Forum in Brisbane, with Queensland committee Chair Mark Brommeyer and HISAs Advocacy and Leadership Director Dr Josie Di Donato both on hand to talk about the benefits of HISA membership.

Cybersecurity
HISA responded to the groundswell of interest in cybersecurity by launching a dedicated Community of Practice this year. Now that group is seeking stakeholder and community input through a survey designed to understand the state of current cybersecurity practices in Australian healthcare. Deadline to complete the survey is October 4.

Help paint the big picture
HISA is preparing a response to the WA Health Strategic Health Review and we are seeking your input. We believe health informaticians can offer strategic input and advice on how cohesive digital healthcare can be effectively delivered across WA within the context of synergistic national developments and international trends. It is essential that health informaticians take on board this significant opportunity to help paint the larger, practical picture for digital healthcare in WA. Complete the survey here .

The CHIA partners and Board wish the 100 Queensland Health employees good luck as they sit their CHIA exam in the coming weeks. eHealth Queensland is supporting the certification of up to 100 health professionals this year which will substantially add to digital health workforce capacity building in the State. The CHIA program acknowledges the expertise and skills of health informatics, e-health and digital health professionals working in clinical settings, in health ICT or in information management roles across the organisation. If your organisation is interested in building digital capability by supporting its employees to become CHIA certified, please contact Greg Moran, Business Development, HISA.

ACS dinner
HISA WA Committee member and Australian health informatics leader Prof Matthew Bellgard, from Murdoch University, has been invited to present at the 6th Annual ACS Dennis Moore Oration Dinner on Wednesday 11 October at the University Club, Crawley. Professor Bellgards Oration title is Embracing Digital Disruption to Advance Clinical Research.
