Message from the CEO
Digital health leaders are invaluable to the transformation of Australian healthcare. More and more we are seeing leaders across the health system called on to help educate, inform and inspire change in hospitals and healthcare organisations. In acknowledging the important role clinicians play in leading digital transformation in health, HISA is pleased to launch a White Paper on Leadership in Clinical Informatics. This paper was produced by HISA following a period of public consultation last year, with more than than 300 pieces of written feedback received from 40 individuals and 14 organisations. Over 70 individuals contributed to the organisational responses. HISA’s Clinical Informatics Community of Practice believes leadership is imperative if we are to get the future of healthcare right in a world where digital is ubiquitous. This leadership capability needs to be acknowledged by organisations embarking on their digital transformation and, by professional colleges who hold their registered health care professionals accountable for their conduct and practice. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this important paper, which I am sure will be invaluable to clinicians in all types of healthcare settings across the country.

Invite to next cybersecurity survey
Take part in the 2018 cybersecurity survey: The general community places its trust in the healthcare system to safeguard health information. Is the health care system doing enough to safeguard health information? We released the findings from the 2017 cybersecurity survey and are now running the survey again this year to understand what has changed, what has improved and what is yet to be done to safeguard health information. The 2018 cybersecurity survey is now open and will close 15th September, 2018.

HISA’s Clinical Informatics Community of Practice (CoP) believes leadership in clinical informatics is imperative if we are to get the future of healthcare right in a world where digital is ubiquitous. Leadership skills in clinical informatics must be developed if we are to ensure technology brings value to healthcare delivery and patient experience. Can My Health Record support patient-centred, clinical-enabled healthcare?
The pursuit of digital health systems, particularly EMR, has been gaining traction in most states and the commonwealth. The recent introduction of My Health Record (MHR) opt-out poses many interesting questions and challenges that impact the course of Australia’s digital health adoption. In this interactive, workshop-style forum, an eminent and diverse group of panellists will explore the various implications of My Health Record adoption, including:
  • What do clinicians expect from MHR?
  • What do patients need from MHR?
  • How will regulators ensure information safety and security?
  • What role do developers play in an environment with over 20 million people enrolled to use MHR?
  • How do healthcare providers deal with gaps in medical record completeness?
When: Wednesday 12 September 2018
