HISA, in collaboration with Hacking Health in Canada, is proud to announce Hacking Health is returning to Australia! To be held during HIC   from 25-27 July, the event is designed to improve healthcare by inviting technology creators and healthcare professionals to collaborate on realistic, human-centric solutions to front-line problems. This year, HISA is proud to be working with Dr Grace Lai, who brings a clinical and entrepreneurial focus to her role as Ambassador for Hacking Health @ HIC.

The Australian Telehealth Conference 2016 wrap up

Thank you to everyone who made #ATC16 a raging success! Delegates were treated to a humorous address from the NSW Health Minister, the Hon. Jillian Skinner, real-life examples of the successes and "lessons" in implementing telehealth, and the provocative address from Economics Professor Paul Frijters. Recap the conversations here, which racked up an impressive 1.7 million impressions on Twitter!
Innovating Health Series kicks off!

HISA, in partnership with Accenture, kicked off its Innovating Health Series in Sydney last week. Through a series of round-table events targeting topical health industry challenges, HISA aims to raise the profile of the digital health innovation agenda in healthcare. The first event on The Culture of Innovation facilitated by Simon Terry was well attended and brought interesting perspectives and actions to take away. Further information will be provided in coming weeks. The next event is scheduled for Brisbane in June. If you want to know more about the series please sign up here.

World renowned informatics expert to present next HISA webinar

HISA is thrilled to have Professor Enrico Coiera presenting the next webinar "A new informatics geography" on Tuesday 17 May at 1:00pm. His presentation will recap his acceptance speech given at MEDINFO 2015 in Brazil, where he was awarded the Francois Gremy Award of Excellence by the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA) - the highest award in this discipline internationally. The webinar will explore the fundamental purpose of automation and its relationship to humans.

HISA members are invited to nominate to be part of the HISA State Branch Committee and become one of HISA's leaders and influencers in Australia's digital health community. If you want to be a mover and shaker in digital health in your state, please read through the Call for Nomination document, complete the nomination form and send it to, along with a high resolution portrait photograph and your 150 word candidate statement.

CHIA competition extended 
Due to high demand, HISA is extending the CHIA 300 competition. Will you be part of the "CHIA 300" health informatics heroes? If you work at the intersection of  healthcare and information technology, then CHIA is for you! Register now and go into the draw to win a $500 Red Balloon voucher.

Important HIC updates

1. HISA is seeking student members to volunteer at HIC. Volunteering for this conference will give you the opportunity to gain health informatics / event management experience, meet new people in the field, network and attend session in your free time (subject to rostering). If you are interested in assisting HISA in this important role, please fill out this form.

2. HIC Exhibition is 95% sold!! Contact Amanda asap to discuss remaining opportunities. 

3. Award nominations are open. The Jon Hilton Award and the Joan Edgecumbe Scholarship are both open for nominations. If you know someone who has excelled in health informatics, or primary care informatics check out these pages. Nominations close 25 May 2016.

Reviewers wanted

Do you want to speak at NZ's largest digital health conference?

Now is your chance. This year, the HiNZ Conference has joined forces with three other conferences (NZ Nursing Informatics Conference, Successes & Failures in Telehealth, and Global Telehealth) at SKYCITY Auckland from 1-3 November 2016. HiNZ is expecting over 1000 local and international delegates to attend the combined event.
