Want to work at HIC 2016?

HISA is seeking student members to volunteer at HIC. Volunteering for this conference will give you the opportunity to gain health informatics/event management experience, meet new people in the field, network and attend session in your free time (subject to rostering). 
Volunteer roles and responsibilities are: 
  • Logistical support including traffic flow and badge control
  • Session room support including ushering and microphones for Q&A
Volunteers can nominate to assist all three days of the conference or just one day. If you are interested in assisting HISA in this important role, please fill out this form.

NIA 2016 will take place on Sunday 24 July in Melbourne in association with HIC.  This year's conference theme:  The role of the nurse in digital health innovation for consumers, clinicians, connectivity, community.

If you are working in a clinical environment, HISA and NIA encourage you to submit a brief abstract describing your experiences with nursing informatics projects and the digital transformation of healthcare.

Upcoming webinars

HISA invites members to join in the upcoming webinar focusing on
Nursing informatics on Tuesday April 19 from 10:00-11:00am AEST. 

Presenters include Brittney Wilson, aka @TheNerdyNurse (a teaser of what can be expected at NIA and HIC 2016) and Lis Herbert.  This webinar will highlight the importance of technology for clinicians, the contrasting nature of nursing informatics between Australia and New York and how technology can help motivate and empower.

First ever HISA Breakfast event in Perth!

There was genuine networking, interest and energy in the room last week as HISA presented its

The event explored the latest in digital systems and emerging technology trends in perioperative medicine and anaesthesiology in hospital settings.

Dr John Ellingham FANZCA provided a reflection on clinical practice change and system implementations for perioperative systems. John took us back to the Templars in his presentation to highlight the changes still required in healthcare to get benefits from digital technology. A follow-up presentation was then provided by Stephen Fitzgerald CIO who discussed emerging technology trends and the requirements for health information systems now being provided from the cloud.

HISA Breakfast Series a full house in VIC and QLD

There was standing room only at the recent HISA Breakfast events in Melbourne and Brisbane, proudly sponsored and supported by Wolters Kluwer UpToDate.

Presenting on The future state of clinical decision support, participants were treated to insights from leading experts in the field: Dr Mark Santamaria, Emergency Physician at The Alfred, Mal Thatcher, former CIO at Mater Health Services Brisbane / Queensland Health CHIO and Dr Jim Wiley II, Senior Deputy Editor Adult and Pediatric Emergency Medicine at UpToDate.

Second e-safety consultation in April

The  second e-safety consultation webinar  will be taking place on  Tuesday 26 April.

Th is consultation is imperative to reduce risks arising from missing, incorrect, incomplete  and delayed health  information. HISA convened an expert group to begin the process of drafting an e-safety professional practice standard for Australia a year ago, and recently opened the papers for consultation. 

HISA welcomes input from our members, the digital informatics workforce, clinicians and organisations improving patient safety.

HISA and ANDS - Sharing Health-Y Data workshop wrap up

On Wednesday 16 March, the HISA Qld branch held a half day symposium in conjunction with the  Qld Cyber Infrastructure Foundation (QCIF)  and the  Australian National Data Service (ANDS)  - Sharing Health-y Data: Challenges and Solutions.

The meeting was led by Dr Dominique Gorse (QCIF), Susan Smith, Dr Hugo Leroux and Mark Brommeyer (HISA QLD) and Dr Sarah Olesen (ANDS). 

This event was very well attended with over 200 engaged participants posing challenging questions and with lively discussions continuing during the breaks.

Realise event - Canberra, April 14

HISA is a collaboration partner for the upcoming Realise Pitch and Connect
event in Canberra on April 14. 

The event in association with the Hospital IP Group and the ACT Government will bring together health providers, health innovators, researchers, scientists, health sector companies and commercialisation agents.
