Message from the CEO
It’s the time of year for celebrations: One of my earliest memories from joining HISA is the warm welcome I received turning up every year at HIC! As HISA has grown over the past decade, the feeling of community connection is as strong as ever. You can experience this for yourself by coming to an end-of-year branch event and getting to know the digital health and health informatics professionals in your area. Melbourne branch has networking drinks from 6pm on Friday (30 Nov) at the Diesel Bar in Little Lonsdale Street and welcomes newcomers as well as current and past members. Western Australia will hold end-of-year drinks at Black Tom’s in West Perth from 5.30pm next Tuesday (4 Dec). NSW will host drinks on Thursday 6 December from 6pm – 8pm at Macquarie Health, including a session on innovation in precision medicine. Everyone is welcome, but please register if you would like to attend branch drinks. Best of all, when you attend a HISA event you are connecting with health’s forward thinkers and becoming part of the digital health movement – the catalyst for change!

This session will illustrate how innovations in cloud-based platforms such as AWS, data integration and the use of machine learning and artificial intelligence can help researchers cope with analysing the burgeoning genomic data required for diagnosis. These technologies have the potential to help better sub-classify and diagnose disease, while also breaking down data barriers to provide clinicians with timely access to the information required to deliver targeted clinical care.
