Message from the CEO A big shout out to the HISA members who put their hats in the ring for committee roles in the annual nominations which closed on Friday. Thank you for volunteering to be a HISA leader! You will find the next 12 months shaping up to be strategically important to digital health transformation for Australia. Already HISA members are moving ahead on User Experience (UX), cybersecurity, eSafety, clinical informatics and nursing informatics through our dedicated communities of practice. If we are to change the essence of Australian healthcare, we need the voice of every HISA member. I urge you to become involved in your branch, be at our national conference in August and to connect with the digital health community at every opportunity.
Challenging old ways of thinking: There was buzz at the recent eHealth Queensland Expo, says HISA Advocacy and Leadership Director Dr Josie Di Donato, and there is no doubt about the level of engagement.
Health & Aged Care News Alert: Health Apps - A Matter of Trust
The Australian Community Attitudes to Privacy Survey 2017 released recently by the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner confirms that health service providers continue to be the most trusted organisations by 79 % of the community. However, only 34% trust technology companies and the industry with the lowest level of trust is social media at 12%. What do these findings mean when considering the place of mobile medical apps or health apps in the Australian community? What role therefore does and should an Australian regulator take to ensure patient safety when using health apps?
