HITS Families,

It is our deepest hope and prayer that you are safe and secure from the events of Hurricane Harvey. We have a long journey ahead towards recovery, but as we have seen throughout this devastating event, with the city's leaders, first responders, Houstonians and surrounding community citizens joining together, we will recover.

On behalf of the staff and myself, thank you for your calls, messages, and emails of concern about our well-being and that of the theatre. All the staff, teaching artists' and their families are safe.

The theatre as of today is dry. We had water enter the building in certain areas. After cleaning up and assessing the situation, we are excited to let you know that we will be able to operate as “normal” by next week. The theatre will re-open at 8:00 am on Tuesday, September 5, 2017.

PROGRAMMING UPDATES

Wizard of Oz production classes: Broadway Beginners 1&2, Broadway Juniors 1&2, and Broadway Bridge 1 will begin next week as scheduled.

The Broadway Bridge 3 Class in the Bellaire/West University area will have a delayed start date of September 11, 2017.

Voice Lessons and Dance Classes will begin on Wednesday, September 6, 2017.

Additional emails will be sent out on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 with all the details and information that you will need. HISD has changed the start date to September 11, 2017. Because of this change and the possibility that some of our students might not be able to get to class next week, we will delay the auditions for these productions until the middle of September. We will use the first week and a half of class to learn the music and work on ensemble numbers. This will help us accommodate for children and families with schedules still in limbo.

MainStage and Rising Star Auditions for Sweeney Todd are rescheduled for Friday, September 8, 2017. The new link to sign up for auditions is: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090b4ba4ab2ca7f49-newaudition .

We have extended registration through Friday, September 8, 2017. If you know of a family who would still like to join us in the fall , definitely let them know it is not too late. We have availability in all of our dance classes, voic e lessons and in some of the main programs.

Do you know of a family that has children in grades 3-6 that are in the Meyerland, Bellaire or West University area that were displaced by Harvey? HITS would like to offer those children a place at HITS for the fall in the Broadway Bridge 3 class which meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 pm- 6 pm. The class will be held at the Bellaire United Methodist Church. Families can apply for these spaces as a gift from HITS through our scholarship and financial assistance program . Families should complete the application and indicate their status in the comment section of the application or reach out to me directly to make arrangements.

The impact of this storm on many of our friends and family is yet to determined. If we at HITS can do anything to help support you, we hope you reach out to us. If you would like to support HITS and help us maintain our programming during this difficult time , please visit   https://www.hitstheatre.org/support-us/donate-online.html .

Our thoughts are with you and your families. We so look forward to seeing you and your children next week at the theatre.
