I heard Dr. Cook say during a lecture that if we can get everyone, kids and adults, to do the 3 sevens that we would eliminate virtually all common health issues in America. What are the 3 sevens you ask? Well I'm glad you did.
💧 7 glasses of water per day
💤 7 hours of sleep each night
👟 7 thousand steps
To which someone raised their hand and asked... Shouldn't it be 8? 8 glasses of water (64oz), 8 hours of sleep... and Dr. Cook cut her off. He simply said, Get everyone you know, everyone you work with to 7 hours EVERY SINGLE DAY and then come talk to me.
He wasn't being rude. Just matter of fact. The fact is that most do ZERO of the 3 sevens on a consistent basis. Some maybe 1 or even 2 if you're a badass. But all 3? I only know a handful of people where all 3 are non-negotiable, daily occurrences. And guess what? They're also the healthiest, most fit individuals I know.
This is actually WAY easier than eating healthier and exercising every day. Walking, drinking water and sleeping are things you area already doing each and every day. Let's just do more of what you're already doing. But it has to be intentional. Start with a plan.
💤 Example, if you need 7 hours of sleep (ok this might sound like DUHHH, but...) start with what time you need to wake up. If your alarm goes off at 6am, then you need to be asleep by 11pm, which means in bed by 10:30, which means starting your bedtime routine at 10. Not that difficult.
💧 How many glasses are you currently drinking each day? Monitor it for 2-3 days. Then see how many you need to add. I always recommend adding some flavored electrolytes or lemon or something to make drinking water more enjoyable. And no, coffee is NOT water. Sorry.
👟 Find a walking buddy at work or a neighbor and start monitoring your steps. Every smart phone these days has an integrated pedometer so track how many you get. Get steppin'!
EVERY DAY. Hit the 3 sevens EVERY DAY and watch how much healthier you become. Remember, you're already doing the activity, let's just do more!
