February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month

February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recognizes #TeenDVMonth each year. This year Stand Up Speak Up Alaska supported schools and organizations to take action and do something to help stop violence in our state. iknowmine.org (IKM) has information on dating and relationships for teens and resources available to order, such as the Getting Together "safety cards" and a variety of Healthy Relationships posters. 

Anchorage Municipal Assembly to Recognize February as TDVAM

On February 26, 2019, the Anchorage Assembly will be passing a resolution recognizing February as Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month! The meeting will take place in the Anchorage Assembly Chambers of the Loussac Library at 5 p.m. The public is welcome to attend!
February is National Condom Month!

This month is National Condom Month. Don't forget that providers and individuals can order condoms from IKM free of charge. We are currently sending out our fun IKM condoms (sayings include "Harness your husky," "Bear-backing isn't safe," "Wear your rubbers," and "Spawn safely") mixed with donated Trojan™ Brand condoms. Order today!
Save the Date: Indigenous Research Program, May 2019

The Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) and Alaska Pacific University (APU) are partnering to offer three weeks of courses. Topics include Indigenous and Western research methodologies, Community-based participatory research, culturally responsive community engagement and communication, health research ethics, and health research and historical trauma. The courses are each a week long. There is no cost to attend. Limited scholarships for travel, room and board are offered. Academic credit available! Download the flyer or access the ANTHC website.
