On Friday, October 20, we celebrated a significant milestone—the 10th anniversary of our beloved annual HK Employee Pumpkin Patch outing. This cherished tradition entails temporarily closing our office to embark on an off-site retreat, fostering stronger connections among our team members while savoring the delightful autumn experiences offered by Arata Farms' pumpkin patch.

This year, our highly anticipated annual pumpkin carving competition took place at the charming Cameron's Pub in Half Moon Bay, lending an extra layer of flavor to our festivities. The victor, 7-year-old Carter, proved to be a promising future addition to the HK team, as he exhibited remarkable creativity and skills. It was truly an extraordinary day, brimming with camaraderie and the spirit of HK!

On September 27th, Andrea J. Justo, Senior Associate at HK and the President-Elect of the SCCBA, had the honor of serving as the emcee for the Santa Clara County Bar Foundation's prestigious Unsung Heroes Awards. On Saturday, September 30th, a group of twenty-one of us had the distinct pleasure of attending the Symphony San Jose Cinderella Ball held at the Silicon Valley Capital Club, followed by the Opening Night at the iconic California Theatre.

On October 19, 2023, HK’s Director of Community Relations, Michelle Hoover had the privilege of engaging with various civic leaders as part of the Leadership San Jose program offered by the San Jose Chamber of Commerce. Discussions were led by Ken Yeager, SJSU Professor and Executive Director of BAYMEC, Jim Shannon, San Jose’s Budget Director, Mayor Matt Mahan, Councilmember Pam Foley and Nanci Klein from the Office of Economic Development.

Next Door Solutions' Annual Light Up The Night Gala is an inspiring homage to Domestic Violence Awareness Month. On October 14th, we were proud to sponsor and attend this event. The night focused on the life of Bea Robinson Mendez, who founded Next Door Solutions, and a new memorial award was created in her honor.
