Over February break members of Code Blue News participated in the 2022 Student Television Network Convention. The 13 students participated in nine contests over the course of three days without a single missed deadline. The most rigorous competition saw the entire crew compete in the Crazy 8's News program in which they had eight hours to produce an eight-minute news program from scratch. This contest mimics the challenges of real-world daily broadcast news production. After the Crazy 8's competition, the individual and small group contests began. The team put together some impressive content in a very short amount of time. Including:
Sports Highlight produced by Chuck Luarasi and Joseph McLaughlin
Sports Commentary produced by Sam Hobart and Jordon Cioffi,
Feature Story produced by John Silipigno
Tell The Story News Editing produced by Kelvin Mungai and Johann Rodriguez- Viera
Public Service Announcement produced by Vincent Tran and Antoli Theodate
Weather Report Produced by Vinh Nguyen
The highlight of all of the group entries was a 4th place finish for Nicholas Cioffi in the Podcast category. N. This was CBN's first attempt at the podcast category, competing against programs that have been podcasting for a few years.
The other award received at the closing ceremony was a 3rd place finish for Bryanna Graziano and Dalice Rodriguez- Viera in the Anchor Team contest. The Anchor Team contest gives contestants 3 hours to write a script, film, and edit a 60-second news report using a provided wire copy of top news stories of the day. This is a huge accomplishment for Bryanna and Dalice as well as our program. The other 4 schools recognized are considered the top HS broadcast journalism programs in the country. The Anchor Team was assisted behind the scenes by Nick Cioffi and Vincent Tran.
Click here to watch some of the content produced for this convention.
Joseph McLaughlin was named a Finalist for The 2022 Massachusetts Student Journalist of the Year by the Massachusetts Scholastic Press Association, a state chapter of the Journalism Education Association. Joe's news packages about Holbrooks's connection to 9/11 featuring an interview with Andrew Card, Chief of Staff to George W. Bush on 9/11/2001, as well as his story on Ginger Betty's in Qunicy stood out to the judges.

Spring sports will begin on Monday, March 21st.
All athletes must register with FAMILYID. The link is below.
All participants must have an updated physical on file with the school nurse. The physical must have been completed within the past 13 months. If you need a physical Convenient MD offers physicals for $20.
User fees for the spring season are $50. Cash or check (made out to Town of Holbrook) can be dropped off in the main office. If you would like to pay online, click HERE then select Athletic User Fee. If it asks for an invoice # type: Athletics
A friendly reminder that user fees carry over each year. For example, if you played basektball this winter, and did not pay the user fee, it will still be required in order to participate in graduation. These fees help us fund equipment, game workers, and even uniforms at times. Thank you for your support!

Free. Period. Products and Supplies— We are grateful to be partnering with St. John the Evangelist (Hingham, MA) on their “Free.” initiative which provides free menstruation supplies to those in need on the South Shore. The products to support this biological function are an added expense placed on many who are already experiencing financial insecurity. Compounding this issue is that these products are not covered by benefits. This gap in need and coverage imposes yet another barrier to equity in education and employment as many are forced to miss school or work. If you need these products, please reach out to the Quincy Family Resource Center by contacting Deb at dbaker@baystatecs.org – 617-481-7227 x196

With a little over 2 weeks to our first competition in Waterville Maine, our students gave up some of their vacation time to prepare the robot, finishing programming and mechanics. Banners were designed, buttons ordered and all marketing items completed for the competition. We will be conducting driver tryouts and learning the rules and strategies of the game. Coach Kevin and Rob are so proud of the dedication of the team, mostly of new members. We will live stream the events. Please like our facebook page Bizarbots Robotics 5494 for updates and news on the team. Our website is Bizarbots.org. New members for next year 2022-2023 are always welcome. This is a year round club that promotes science, technology, engineering and mathematics, but also business skills, marketing and English. Social media and video production help is also needed!
