Historically, when an HMIS user has completed a shelter assessment, this is the Program Eligibility Determination that you see when you click on the Eligibility button under Assessment history. 

On this screen clients are given a shelter assessment score, which indicates the household’s vulnerability.  To provide more detailed information for HMIS users, we have made some changes to the scoring process.  We hope that these changes will provide users with a better understanding of the results of the assessment and their client’s chance of getting into a shelter quickly so they can take any additional actions needed to support their clients. In addition to the shelter assessment score, there is also a new eligibility score summary, which provides information about  which shelters the household may be eligible for. 

Updates to the Shelter Assessment Score Summary

The Shelter Score Summary is one component that indicates prioritization for a Shelter Referral from Coordinated Access System (CAS). It also provides a vulnerability score from the assessment information. This has been simplified. The Shelter Score Summary is used as one component of the prioritization for referral into shelter.

New Eligibility Information on the Shelter Survey

Eligibility Score Summary determines which shelter a household may be eligible for. This however does not guarantee that a referral will be made to any of the shelters the household is eligible for. There are several factors that determine when a referral is made (e.g., Shelter Score Summary which determines vulnerability and openings at the shelters). Please view the attached Job Aid on how to read and understand this new Eligibility Score Summary and the Shelter Assessment Score Summary.
