A Message From Mr. Mills
What's Happening In October

Dear HMS Families,

The fall season is already here and the conclusion of the first 9 weeks is rapidly approaching. Remember, if you need any assistance logging into Progress Book to check your student's grades, don't hesitate to contact the office.  I'm elated to report the school year is going well. We have been working hard on writing across the curriculum, advancing our knowledge in STEM courses and all of our student clubs are busy helping the school and community.

Our first Parent/Teacher Conferences for the 2018-2019 school year is going to be Tuesday, Oct. 30, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Parent/Teacher Conferences provide an opportunity to meet with each of your child's teachers to discuss his/her academic progress, and to find out how well they are doing. It is also a great opportunity to simply become better acquainted with your student's teachers.
If you would like to contact me, my e-mail address is You can also reach me by phone at Harding Middle School, (740) 282-3481.

On-line Report Cards

Beginning this 2018-2019 school year, parents of Steubenville City Schools students will have to go online (Progress Book) to find their child's quarterly and semester grades.

SCS will be sending out a call notification to parents and guardians to remind them to check Progress Book at the end of each grading period.

Parents without access to the internet are free to go to the office to request the hard copy and one will be printed on the spot. We appreciate your support and cooperation.

Steubenville City Schools has adopted the ALICE Training Institute model to provide a safe and healthy learning environment for our students and staff. Families and communities expect schools to keep their children safe from all threats including human-caused emergencies such as crimes of violence. In collaboration with local government and community stakeholders, schools can take steps to plan and prepare to mitigate these threats. Every school Emergency Operating Procedure (EOP) should include courses of action that will describe how students and staff can most effectively respond to an Active Shooter situation to minimize the loss of life, and teach and train on these practices. No single response fits all active shooter situations however, making sure each individual knows his or her options for response and can react decisively will save valuable time.
